I was shocked and saddened to hear, after the fact, of the unexpected, tragic and untimely death of Mr. Roderick M. Owens!!!
I primarily knew him as THE ONLY SIBLING and THE OLDER BROTHER of my Bennett College Roommate for two years, Miss Doris L. Owens.
As I remember, I first met him, visited and socialized with him, their mother --- and other family members as I was The Bennett College Student in the UNCF Pre-Med Summer Institute at Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee --- their hometown --- after my Freshman and Sophomore years of college.
He was friendly, "laid back" and protective of her.
As I also recall, he was quite an Accomplished Artist. It is my understanding that he had an Art Show --- Just last year ---; and I remember that --- At one time --- He was professionally affiliated with The Famous and Historically Significant Meharry College.
From a recent extensive phone meeting with Doris, it is my understanding that he was NOT EXPECTING TO DIE THIS SOON --- so we are all Grief Stricken and IN SHOCK!!!
Therefore, to all remaining family that I know and those that I do not know ---
As we adjust to Life Without Him, His Unique Gifts, His Talents, His Contributions to The Art World --- Especially His Gifts of Pottery, Paintings and Those in The FINE ARTS --- May GOD ALMIGHTY, HIMSELF COMFORT and SUPPORT US, through this grief-stricken period with HIS EVERLASTING LOVE, as ONLY HE CAN DO!!!
GONE, TOO SOON, PERHAPS My Extended Family Brother --- But Never to Be Forgotten!!!
MAY YOUR GIFTEDNESS, TALENTS and LOVE for FAMILY, at several levels --- BE ROYALLY TREASURED AND MAY IT SHINE ON AND REIGN ON FOREVERMORE!!!
Sisterly, Thoughtfully and LOVINGLY...While Still in Shock, This Morning,
Ms. Bobbetta Jones, BS, MSPH Long Term Career Health Professional Retired Educator Docent Education Program Graduate, The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) and The Former ARTWORKS Supervisor, The Education Department, Children, Family and Schools Program Chairperson for The Health and Wellness Ministry at DEXTER
