Roy Edward Gifford, a cherished soul whose life journey began on December 21, 1944, concluded his earthly chapter on February 26, 2026. He was a beacon of joy and strength, a man who lived a life rich with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

Preceded in death by his parents Catherine Gifford and Roy Edward Gifford and his loving aunts Sarah Staten and Mary Jane Staten, he was a shining example of the values they instilled in him. His early education at Gallatin Public Schools laid a strong foundation for the remarkable person he would become. Roy’s life was further enriched when he joined hands in matrimony with his beloved Dottie Edmondson on a beautiful autumn day, October 31, 2009. Their union was a testament to enduring love and companionship.

Roy’s professional life was marked by his long-standing service to the City of Metro Nashville, where he was not only a respected employee but also a friend to many. He approached his work with the same integrity and passion that he applied to all aspects of his life.

A man of many interests, Roy especially loved to play golf. The green fairways were his haven, a place where he found peace and camaraderie. His love for the game was only matched by the joy he took in sharing it with friends and family.

While both went on to remarry, Roy and former spouse Lillie Bell Crenshaw, had three children together who they adored. He was a proud father to his dedicated sons, Leroy (Rogerwene) Gifford and Donnell Gifford, and his treasured daughter, Teresa (Bubba) Dunn. His role as a grandfather to six grandchildren (Catherine, Booker, Brandon, Ariana, Jasmine, Terrell) and three great-grandchildren (Davyana, Nakyla, Nova) was one he cherished deeply, each child holding a special place in his heart.

Roy’s legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Dottie Gifford, who stood by him as a partner and confidante through all of life’s adventures. Following Roy’s union with Dottie, his family circle extended to include six stepchildren, among them his devoted stepdaughter Carolyn Holt, who held a special bond with him. His sisters-in-law, Cladie Scruggs and Shirley Daniel, and brother-in-law, Thomas Edmondson, along with numerous relatives and friends will fondly remember Roy’s kind spirit and generous heart.

Roy Edward Gifford’s life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships and impactful deeds. His absence will be profoundly felt, but the memories he created will continue to inspire and comfort all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to a man of great character and warmth, we celebrated the indelible mark he left on this world. Roy’s story does not end here; it lives on in the lives he touched and love he spread, a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
