Obituary Of Darryl Lamont Powell April 1959 - December 2025. Darryl Lamont Powell, 66, passed away peacefully at home, in Atlanta, GA. He was known for his warmth, devotion to family, loyalty to friends, and his vibrant, uplifting spirit-bringing joy and encouragement to everyone he encountered. Born at Cook Country Hospital to Clifton Powell and Mary Louise Powell, Darryl spent his formative years in Markham and Chicago, IL. His natural curiosity and intelligence stood out from an early age. He graduated from Kozminski Elementary and Kenwood High School and later pursued a degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Darryl's keen intellect and attention to detail guided his professional journey. He shared his talents at AT&T in Chicago, IL, and Orlando, FL, before retiring from Bank of America in Atlanta, GA. Once in Atlanta, he expanded his family circle, embracing and truly cherishing his deepening bond with the Collier family. Darryl was loved and respected by his colleagues. He was admired not only for his expertise, but also for his work ethic and thoughtfulness which was uplifting to others; an impact that left a positive impression throughout his career.
Darryl valued every moment with loved ones, enriching his life with each treasured shared experience. His humor, generosity, and independence shined in all that he did. He embraced life fully, joyfully celebrating each birthday in Las Vegas and sharing happiness and laughter at every family occasion.
An avid sports fan, Darryl remained fiercely loyal to his Chicago roots, his most cherished memory was attending a Chicago Blackhawks game with his father though he also held a deep, lifelong fondness for the Dallas Cowboys.
Darryl was preceded in death by his parents ,Clifton Powell and Mary Louise Powell; his sister, Linda Louise Powell, his niece, Helen Nevaeh Lyons; and his brother-in-law, Bartholomew Elliott.
He is survived by his brother Clifton Powell, Jr. (Mae); his brother Lawrence Donald Powell (Denise); his Sister Phyllis Powell; and his brother-in-law Frank Lyons. Darryl also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was a beloved brother, a joyful uncle, and a steadfast friend who made everyone around him feel cherished.
In remembering his gifts and love, these words capture Darryl's lasting legacy:
