Mrs. Mildred Omega Farmer of Atlanta passed April 20, 2022. Funeral Service April 27, 2022 at 11 am in our Chapel. Viewing April 26, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. First Breath

On October 10, 1928, at 8:00 am, in West Point, Georgia, a little baby girl was born to Lee Roy Franklin and Gillian Glaze Franklin. Her mother named her Omega because she would be the last child born to this union due to the premature death of her father. However, upon watching little Omega interact with her only sibling, Julia Pearl, Omega’s mother noticed the “gentle strength” of Omega’s personality at an incredibly early age and decided to add the name Mildred. And so, the legacy began.

Waiting to Exhale

Mildred began her educational journey in the school system of the city of West Point. West Point is also where her Christian journey started. She joined Keeney United Memorial Methodist Church at an early age. Mildred continued her educational journey in Atlanta, Georgia. First, she obtained her high school diploma from Booker T. Washington High Night School. This was a great feat for her since she was now divorced and the mother of five children. Next, on her educational path, she attended Atlanta Area Tech and received her two-year certificate in early childhood education. This enabled her to work as a Paraprofessional in the Atlanta Public School System from which she retired. Mildred continued her Christian path by uniting with Greater Turner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Atlanta. She was highly active throughout her years as a member of Greater Turner Chapel. She sang in the J. S. Horton Chorus, taught Sunday School (early years), served as a Stewardess, and a Deaconess.

Last Smile

Now, Mildred’s journey has brought her to the river of Jordan. She looked across the river, and what she saw standing on the other side, brought a smile to her face. There they were. All the loved ones who preceded her in death. Her afore mentioned parents and sister; her sons, Levotus Cooper Brown and Raymond Farmer, Jr.; her granddaughter, Latrevia Brown, her great grandson, Jarmichael Brown, and her son-in-law, Michael Gilstrap. Those who remain to continue Mildred’s legacy are her children, Glenda Farmer Nolan (Morris), Linda Gilstrap, and Walter C. Farmer; her grandchildren, Latonia Brown, Roderick Dunn, Misty Brown, LaToya Dunn Parks (Michael), Morika Nolan Spicer (DeVance), Katrice Nolan Shealey (James), and Walter C. Farmer, Jr; and her great grandchildren, Leonte’ Long, Kierra Parks, Le’Kia Brown, Ezekiel Brown, Alexcia West, Cam’Ron Dunn, Amariah Brown, Laila Parks, Asier Spicer, Yael Spicer, and Serenity Riley. Others who will cherish her memory are her niece, Patricia, grandniece, Andrea, grandnephew Derrick; her former husband, Raymond Farmer, daughter-in-law, Patricia Wiley; god daughter, Frances Brooks; god grandson, Andrew Hay; two longtime friends, Claudia Henderson, and Hattie Saffo and a host of relatives and friends. And the journey continues…
