Obituary For Curtis Cooke

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC carefully considered this recommendation and ask that additional guest please participate via live-streaming if it is authorized by the family.

A Private Memorial Service for Mr. Curtis Sidney Cooke will be conducted 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 S. Johns St., Florence, SC, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mr. Curtis Sidney Cooke was born August 4, 1954, to Victoria M. (Williams) Cooke and the late Earnest J. Cooke, Sr., in Middlebrook, New York.

Curtis begins his education at Saint Theresa of Alvila in South Ozone Park, New York. He then attended Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, New York and John Adams High School in South Ozone Park, New York, where he was a participant in the graduating Class of 1972.

Shortly, after his graduation, Curtis enlisted in the Air Force. While Curtis was serving in the Air Force, he was an Avionic Sensor System Specialist and his Civilian occupation was an Electronic Mechanic. Curtis was honorably discharged at Beale Air Force Base in California. Curtis then returned to New York where he began to work at the Post Office in Manhattan. He transferred to Oklahoma to become a Postal Instructor. He was there for 17 years. After leaving the Post Office, Curtis moved to Florence, South Carolina, where he chooses to further his education in HVAC – Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technology at Florence Darlington Technical School.

Curtis had a true love for life. He was a people person who never met a stranger and was kindhearted to everyone. Curtis loved his dogs, Peucheau and Kem. He also enjoyed all types of card games.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Earnest J. Cooke, Sr., in December 1997.

Curtis leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Victoria M. Cooke; his brother, Earnest J. Cooke, Jr. (Sonia); his sister, Mary F. Cooke; a nephew, Damion Norwood; a niece, Miracle Cooke; and a host of other relatives; and friends.
