Private funeral service for Mr. Franklin Delano Alexander, Sr will be conducted 12 Noon Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Sunset Memory Gardens. Interment will follow, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.
Mr. Franklin Delano Alexander, Sr., a son of the late James Joe Alexander and Lula Mae Grant Robinson was born in Florence, South Carolina on April 8, 1946. He departed this life, Saturday, April 25, 2020.
Franklin affectionately called Delano attended the Public Schools of Florence County and was a 1966 graduate of Wilson High School.
Franklin lived in Bronx, New York for several years and after returning to Florence he was employed for 34 years at Union Carbide (ESAB) Company. After retirement, he was employed with Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC until his heath declined.
At an early age, Franklin joined New Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina and later became a member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Ralph W. Canty, Sr. He met and married the late Cyremthia Jordan Alexander.
In addition to his parents; Delano was preceded in death by his wife, Cyremthia Alexander; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Jordan Alexander; and a special cousin, Linda “Pop” Mumford.
Sharing his legacy of love and cherishing precious memories are: four children, Cherese Alexander of Florence, South Carolina, Franklin Delano “Frankie” Alexander, Jr. (Tonya) of Florence, South Carolina, Chelise Williams of Chesterfield, Virginia, and Catrice (Gilleon) Frieson of Lake City, South Carolina; seven grandchildren which includes Jailyn Williams of Chesterfield, Virginia, a granddaughter reared in the home, Jordan Alexander, Kristopher Alexander, Jayla Frieson, Brittani Alexander all of Florence, South Carolina, Carson Frieson of Lake City, South Carolina, and Kamryn Alexander of Columbia, South Carolina; two sisters, Yvonne Peterson and Julia (Rudolph) Graham both of Florence, South Carolina; a niece that was more like a sister, Monica (Robert) McCall of Columbia, South Carolina; a devoted special friend, Dora Scott of Florence, South Carolina; two aunts, Gladys Smoot of Richmond Virginia and Elizabeth Alexander of Florence, South Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Carl Jordan, Jr. of Bronx, New York and Robert “BJ” Alexander, Jr. of Clarksville, Maryland; one sister-in-law, Janie (William) Etheridge of Chesterfield, Virginia; two special Barbershop friends, Daryl Hall and Timothy McFadden both of Florence, South Carolina; and a host of nephews; nieces; other relatives; and friends.
