Years later, she was one of four who found and established Open Door Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. B. F. Alston. She served on the Pastor’s Aide Organization; Deaconesses Board; and sang on the Gospel Choir. She also served as the Mother of Open Door Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents; Mother McMillian was preceded in death by her only sibling, Sadie McMillian Robinson; a niece, Jackie Robinson; an uncle, Zola McMillian; and two aunts, Willie McMillian and Catherine McMillian Parrott.
