Obituary For Mother Virginia Franklin

Funeral service for Mother Virginia (Virgie) Rollinson Dupree Franklin will be conducted 12 Noon Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Savannah Grove Baptist Church, 2620 Alligator Rd., Effingham. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mother Virginia (Virgie) Franklin was born on January 15, 1924 in Williamsburg County, SC to the late Edmond and Daisy Pompey Rollinson. She died on Saturday, March 9, 2019.

She was married to the late David Dupree and Hampton Franklin.

Mother Franklin relocated to North Charleston, SC where she was employed with the Charleston County School District.

She was a member of Charity Baptist Church and Little Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church both located in North Charleston, SC. She was one of the Church Mothers, sung on the Adult Choir and Hymnal Choir.

Mother Franklin later relocated to Florence, SC and became a member of New Hope Christian Church in Greeleyville, SC.

Survivors include seven children, Delores (Robert) Gamble, David Dupree, Napoleon Dupree, Dorothy Williams, Virginia (Betty) Dupree, Cynthia (Curtis) King, and Willie Edward (Roberta) Franklin; twenty-three grandchildren, one of which she raised as her own, Carol Gamble; seventy great grandchildren; twenty-three great great-grandchildren; one sister, Liza Witherspoon; a host of nephews; nieces; other relatives and friends.

Family visitation will be held 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Friday, March 15, 2019 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 S. Johns St., Florence and other times at 2415 Whippoorwill Rd., Effingham
