Alton’s Life Story
Alton Wayne Brown was born to Alto and Glycerine Virgil Brown on December 9, 1943 in Columbia, Mississippi.
Alton was raised in a Christian household in the Expose Community. He received Christ at an early age and was a member of the Expose Church of God in Christ.
Alton attended John J. Jefferson High School and graduated in 1964. During high school, Alton excelled on the football field as a running back for the “Mighty Greenwaves” football team.
After graduation, Alton joined the United States Army in 1964. Alton proudly served his country for 4 years. Those years included being deployed to the War in Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, God showed favor for Alton. Alton’s family welcome him home in 1968.
After returning home, Alton moved to Chicago, Illinois. Alton met and married Estella Bennett in 1970. To this union two children were born, Alton Wayne, Jr., and Shana.
Alton worked at Peters Eckers & Sons for 8 years as a supervisor. He continued his career at Schulze and Burch Biscuit Company and worked for over 25 years, serving as night supervisor. Alton retired in 2012.
Alton loved to come home to visit family and friends in Mississippi each year. He always stayed in constant contact with his family. His voice would sometimes be the first voice you would hear on special occasions. He shared daily calls to his sisters and brothers. Alton also stayed in contact with his lifelong friends.
Alton would often tell his family: “I love you and there is nothing you can do about it.”
Alton had a generous heart and spirit. He always talked about the joys of his heart, his grandchildren.
Alton’s father, mother, wife, one sister, Shirley R. Kelly, one brother, Samuel Brown and one son, Fredrick Showers, preceded him in death.
Alton leaves to cherish his memories, his son Alton Wayne Brown, Jr. (Maria), his daughter, Shana Brown both of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Jared, Jaliyah, Emma, Ethan, and Isabella all of Chicago, IL.
