THE LIFE & LEGACY
Rặy Dan Barnes Sr.
Ray Dan Barnes Jr. was born on December 7, 1960, in Laurel, Mississippi, to the late R.D. Sr. and Willie Mae Barnes. He attended East Marion and graduated in 1978, later earning a welding degree from PRCC, which laid the foundation for his strong work ethic.
In 1984, Ray moved to California, where he was united in marriage to Patricia Brown in 1998. During his time there, he worked diligently in several roles, including positions at Santa Dairy, the 7Up Plant, and Brown and Root.
After returning to Mississippi in 2000, Ray continued his career, working at Stringers as a yard hand roustabout for six years, with Frazier as a bricklayer, and later with Pine Belt Energy as a pipefitter until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed watching football, baseball, and wrestling.
On Monday evening, April 6, Ray Dan Barnes Jr. transitioned from this life at Merit Health Wesley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandchild, Riley Barnes.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Patricia Brown of Columbia; one daughter, Tasheika Barnes of Columbia; two sons, Rayan Barnes of California and Ray Dan Barnes III of Columbia; four stepsons, Mark, Montrail, Lyndell, and Virgil, all of California; two brothers, Charles (Mary) Barnes and John Henry (Karen) Barnes of Columbia; one sister, Roseita Jefferson of Columbia; and his godmother, Clementeen Bennett of Columbia. His legacy continues through sixteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
