Obituary For Amanda Loraine Tarrance

Amanda “Loraine” Tarrance Born on July 22, 1926 and departed on January 11, 2021 at the age of 94 at Cypress Pointe Health Campus. She was born in Lancaster (Garrard County), KY to the late James A. and Helen B. Mayfield. Loraine was born the 7th of 10 children from this union.

Loraine married John Thomas Tarrance, Jr. February 10, 1944 in Lancaster, KY. From this union three sons (Vernelle, Guye and Jerry) were born and the family relocated to Dayton, OH in the early 1950’s. Loraine worked outside the home for a few years in food service for Talbot Towers and Monsanto before focusing on her entrepreneurial talents as a seamstress. She was very gifted in her ability to design and make custom clothing and complete clothing alterations.

Her greatest joys were her grandchildren (including great and great-great), preparing meals and having family and friends over to enjoy her cooking. Loraine was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on January 14, 1978 and was a member of the Westwood Congregation.

Her beloved John passed on November 1, 1990 and she maintained an independent lifestyle for many years (returning to Kentucky for several years and back to Dayton in 2014).

At the age of 92 she became a resident at the Cypress Pointe Health Campus where she was known for her love of chocolate candy, affectionately called “Granny” and loved by all the staff.

She is preceded in death by her parents: John A. and Helen B. Mayfield; husband: John T. Tarrance, Jr.; son: Jerry Tarrance; daughter-in-law: Wanda Harlan; granddaughter: Marcie Harlan Hill; brothers: Thomas “Yates” Mayfield, James Mayfield, Robert “Pap” Mayfield, and Fred “Hambone” Mayfield; sisters: Dorothy Warren, Wade Rice, and Mabel Jernigan; special niece and nephew: Barbara Adams and Bruce Warren.

Loraine leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy her sons: Vernelle L.Tarrance (Glenda) and Guye Tarrance; daughter-in-law: Judith Tarrance; 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; sister: Bessie Gaddis; brother: Fleece La Joy Mayfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Due to COVID safety concerns and protocols, a virtual Memorial Service will be held for Loraine on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 10:00AM Her remains will be placed alongside her husband, John, in Danville (Clifton), KY at a later date.
