Visitation: 11:30 am until time of service.
Diane McCowan Smith, 80, of Danville Kentucky, quietly passed away on November 3rd, 2024, after a battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded in love by her family.
Diane was born and raised in Danville, Kentucky. She attended the historical Bate High School, where she was active in clubs and organizations.
After graduating Bate High School. Diane met Leon Smith and the two married, started a family, and created a home raising 3 children together. She was a 4th generation member of First Baptist 2nd & Walnut, where she accepted Christ at the age of 10. She participated in Sunday school from childhood to adulthood, sang in the adult choir, where she jauntily sang “Satisfied With Jesus”. and served as the church clerk for at least 20 years serving three pastors. It was during her later years at the church, that she started a city-wide senior citizen feeding program and rallied the church to join in the Samaritan’s Purse, international annual shoe box drive for needy children.
She is survived by her husband, Leon Smith Sr., son Leon Smith Jr and daughters Lisa Joleen Smith, and Penny Renee (Smith) Mickey (Kenneth Mickey). She was preceded in death by her parents Charlesetta (Singleton, McCowan) Bradshaw and Dowell McCowan, her sister, Betty Charles (McCowan) Walker and brother Dallas McCowan.
She will be dearly missed by grandchildren, Isaiah Chaz Young, (Kristian Aguilera) Lexus Diane (Smith) Hale, Alysia Leona Smith, and Gregory Kenaniah Armstrong, great grandchild Kaiyah Amala Kimberlyn Hale and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
