Martha Ann Mayfield-Hanna, 82, of Danville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026. Born on November 19, 1943, she was the cherished third daughter of Fred and Evelyn Mayfield.

Martha spent her formative years in Danville, surrounded by loving parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and many lifelong childhood friends. She deeply reveled in the closeness of her family and excelled academically at Bate High School, where she proudly served as the valedictorian of the graduating class of 1961.

Following high school, Martha matriculated into Kentucky State College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education. While in college, she became a dedicated member of the Alpha Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she developed deep, lasting sisterhoods.

Her passion for education led her to a distinguished career with the Detroit Board of Education, where she taught Business English, Law, Typing, and Computer Software. Her natural leadership later led to her appointment as the head of the Business Department at Northwestern High School and the Dean of Students at Denby High School. While impacting countless students in Detroit, Martha continued her own academic pursuit at Wayne State University, ultimately earning both a Master of Education and a Doctor of Education degree.

While living in Detroit, she met and married the love of her life, Errol William Hanna of Key West, Florida. Together, they were blessed with a son, Brian Crosby Hanna. Martha brought immense comfort to everyone she encountered. She was widely known for her warm smile, her loving and caring spirit, and her unique ability to put anyone at ease. She found great joy in traveling, reading, staying informed on current events, debating politics with her husband, and above all, spending precious time with her family. She will forever be remembered for her gentle heart and the unwavering kindness she extended to everyone.

Martha was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Fred and Evelyn Mayfield; her sister, Barbara Adams; and her brothers-in-law, Terry Bruce and Edward Adams. Sadly, following Martha's passing, her dear sister, Johelen Davis, also passed away.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Errol; her loving son, Brian (Alicia); her adored grandchildren, Miles and Gabriella; her siblings, Patricia Benning (Gordon), Norma Bruce, Rita Kinley (Isaac), James Mayfield (Patricia), and Kenneth Mayfield; her brother-in-law, Donald Davis; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
