Dr. Ruby L. Broadway peacefully accepted her heavenly wings and entered her father's presence on March 10, 2026 at the age of 71. Ruby was born September 18, 1954 to the late Bonnie Dickens in Washington, DC.
For more than four decades, Ruby devoted her life to the advancement of science, the empowerment of students, and the strengthening of Dillard University's mission as a historically Black institution committed to academic excellence and social progress. Ruby also worked as an adjunct professor at Southern University at New Orleans for over 20 years. Ruby was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She was also a member of Alpha Beta Omega Chapter in New Orleans before transferring to general membership.
She leaves to cherish her aunt, Lucille Covington (Dr. Johnny); Elizabeth Broadway; sister/cousin, Gwendolyn Thomas; brothers/cousins, Johnny Covington III and Kevin Broadway; along with a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother; brother, Omar Dickens; stepfather, Shirley Dickens; and grandparents, Henry and Cora Broadway.
The Homegoing Service will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026, 11:00am at Fairview Church of God, Burnsville Community, Polkton, North Carolina. Interment will follow the service in the family plot of the Church Cemetery.
The family will greet family and friends on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 10:30-11:00am at Fairview Church of God.
The public viewing will be on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 12:00pm-3:00pm at Smith's Funeral Home.
