Minister Kevin Deon Marshall Sr., affectionately known as “Catfish” to his family and friends peacefully departed this life on January 29, 2026, at Atrium Health Anson Hospital, Wadesboro, NC. Kevin was born in his parent’s home in the projects at 729 Sikes Avenue, Wadesboro, NC on September 12, 1969. He was the son of the late Neal Marshall Jr. and Margaret Walker Marshall Huntley.
Kevin attended the public schools of Anson County and was a graduate of Anson Senior High, Class of 1987. During his time in school, he was an active member of the wrestling and football teams, showcasing his competitive spirit and dedication to teamwork. His commitment to education and love for his community were evident throughout his life.
After graduation, Kevin enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he distinguished himself by completing the MIL Functions Civil Disturbances Course, the Personal Finance Corps, and the Fundamentals of Marine Corps Leadership. His commitment and service earned him several commendations, the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Rifle Marksman Badge. He also served on honor guard detail at the White House. Additionally, he operated his own business, Marshall Law Security, providing private security details for notable clients such as National Civil Rights Activist John C. Barnett and Attorney Ben Crump.
Faith played a central role in Kevin’s life. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church in Wadesboro, NC, where he sang in the choir. Later in life, he became a member of Empowering Word Ministries, where he felt a profound call to the ministry. Embracing this calling, Kevin began preaching and sharing the message of hope and love, touching the hearts of many in his community. Kevin brought joy to everyone around him.

He was a member of the Anson County Parks and Recreation Board of Directors, VFW Post 10403, Anson Men of Action (AMOA), Faith-Based Center of Hope, Anson County Democratic Party and many other civic organizations. This year, he sponsored a basketball team that his son, KJ, will now stand in and coach, continuing Kevin’s legacy of mentorship and support for youth in the community.
He was united in holy matrimony to Kenya Christian Marshall, and from their union, three wonderful children were born.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neal Marshall Jr., mother, Margaret Huntley, and grandmother, Gladys Walker, who was instrumental in his upbringing and a host of aunts and uncles.
