Mother Eva Mae Caple Allen Gilbert daughter of the late Alex and Rosa Lindsey Caple was born October 12, 1926 in Anson Country. She departed her earthly life on January 21, 2026 at Hospice Haven, Rockingham, NC.
Eva Mae attended the Public Schools of Anson County. Her Christian experience began at an early age, where she was Baptized at Red Hill Baptist Church, in Wadesboro, NC. Eva Mae was married to Robert Lee Allen. To this union three children were born; Twin Sons: Henry, Jimmy and one Daughter, Effie Mae Allen.
Eva Mae moved to Brooklyn, NY during the late 1950s. She soon joined the New Canaan Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY and served on the C.E. Lewis Gospel Chorus as a faithful member. Eva Mae was employed at Rands Dry Cleaners for many years and later was hired by Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Hospital in NYC. There she met Hershel Gilbert, Jr. and was joined in Holy Matrimony on December 10, 1983 and they both retired and moved to Wadesboro, NC in 1989.
Eva Mae then rejoined her home Church Red Hill Baptist Church under the Leaderships of Rev. Clark and Rev. Anthony Ledbetter. Eva Mae later moved her membership to Morning Star Redeemed Church of God, which she named, located in Lilesville, NC. Founder, Pastor, Elder Carl E. Ingram, her Son-in-Law, appointed his loving Mother-in-law as Church Mother. She also served as Missionary President, Deaconess, Sunday School Treasurer and loved her penny rallies. Mother Gilbert was a faithful praise and worshiper, who loved the Lord and her daughter, church, family and friends.
Eva Mae was preceded in death by her loving parents, Twin Sons: Jimmy & Henry Allen and Husbands: Robert Lee Allen and Hershel Gilbert, Jr.
She also was preceded in death by her Sister: Laura K. Robinson (Harvey Brother-in-Law); Brothers: Will Caple, (Leonia); EC Caple (Georgia), Marshall Caple (Emma Ree), Alexander Caple (Effie Mae), James Lindsey (Selma), Cleveland Kirby, Step-Brothers & Sisters: Robert, Grover, Lucille & Mary.
Mother Gilbert leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving daughter Effie "Dussie" Allen Ingram, Grand God-Daughter: Keaundra, two Great God-Sons: Cameron and Kaiden. One Brother: Otis Kirby (Lizzie) of High Point, NC. God-Daughter: Shanise Mills Bowers of Virginia Beach. A host of Nephews & Nieces who she dearly loved, Relatives, Cousins, Church Family and Friends.
The Services to Celebrate The Life and Legacy of Mother Gilbert will be on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Westview Memorial Park, Polkton, North Carolina.

Very sorry to hear. My deepest condolences to Sis. Gilbert's family and friends. I went shoe shopping once with her and my mom, and attended church services with them as well. Sis. Gilbert was a phenomenal woman, and I'm glad to have met her. She was very funny and friendly. May she rest in paradise!👑🌹💜🕊
We were blown away by this beautiful personality. An Angel sent from heaven above and it was an honor to meet her. She also was a very good friend of my Mother, Mildred Burns from Peachland, NC.
