Calvin Bennett (Calbo) transitioned peacefully March 24, 2026 at Atrium Health Hospice in Monroe, NC. Born to the late Raymond and Elsie Liles Bennett Calivn was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lee Pratt Bennett, one son, Berwyn Douglas Bennett, one sister, Gladys Bennett McLendon, two brothers, Raymond Bennett and Benford Bennett.
Calvin was a Lilesville native. He attended Henry Grove School and Henderson Grove Church. He accepted Christ at an early age.
Calvin was a diligent man. He held several occupations throughout his lifetime. In his early years, he worked for the Eastern Seaboard Railroad, Holly Farms, Wansona and self-employed in logging. He worked at BV Hendrick Gravel and Sand until his retirement. He could drive and operate anything.
Calvin had a passion for old school music; gospel, gardening, baseball and cars. He loved spending time with friends and reminiscing about the “good days.” Calvin was known to demand your attention. He was fun, sometimes crazy, but underneath that tough exterior was a warm, caring, loving, gentle and humble man. A man we will always remember and keep in our hearts.
We and everyone who knew him remember his catchphrases: “Baby don’t you think I know?” and “Let me clear my throat.” Calvin loved his family, friends, and enjoyed life and we loved him back.
Though we mourn our loss, we also celebrate the life he lived. We have the countless memories we have shared, the laughter we have enjoyed and the love we have felt.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his homegoing: three daughters, Carolyn V. Bennett (Net_, Mrs. Martha Maske (Jackie) and Twana Pratt; two sons, Everette Bennett (Milkman) and James Edward Pratt.
He also leaves to cherish one brother, John Walter Bennett of Wingate, NC.
Twelve grandchildren: Calvina, Marques, Marlon, Maurice, Mario, Malcolm, Tristan, Cedric, Berwyn, Tamicha, Latasha, Katrina and 20 great grandchildren.
The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, March 28, 2026, 4:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be at Westview Memorial Park.
