Obituary For Mr. Clifton Shankle Jr.

Mr. Clifton Shankle, Jr. was born on November 25, 1955 to the late Clifton Shankle, Sr and Annie N. DeBerry Shankle He departed this life on September 1, 2024 at Trellis Hospice Care, Winston Salem, NC. Clifton dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age.

Clifton, better known as Pop and/or Stick matriculated through the Stanly County School system and graduated from South Stanly High School in 1975 were he excelled in basketball. After graduating he entered the military (Army) where he served in Desert Storm and was a member of the 227 Transportation Unit in the Army Reserves where he retired after 20 years. He later worked for Aeroquip now known as Norwood Manufacturing where he retired at the age of 65.

Pop’s favorite teams were the Oakland Raiders and the North Carolina Tarheels but what brought him the most joy was family, friends and having family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clifton Shankle, Sr., and Annie N. Shankle, brother Roger C. Shankle, and his nephew Rodney O. Liverman.

He leaves cherished memories to his sons Marcus Shankle of Albemarle, NC, Jason Shankle (Sandy) of Concord, NC, and their mother Vergie Flake of Albemarle, NC. Six grandchildren, five sisters Barbara Owens (Phillip) of Kernersville, NC, Delores and Nena Shankle of Norwood, NC, Elaine Shankle of Albemarle, NC, and Tara Bivens(Miles) of Norwood, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Two maternal aunts Mrs. Joyce Lyons of Norwood, NC, and Mrs. Myrtle Collins of East Elmhurst, New York and one paternal uncle Mr. David Bryan of Norwood, NC.

Acknowledgment of special friends, Rev. Anthony Hall, Mr. Sam (Tang) Watkins, Mr. Bruce (Bro) Jackson, Mr. Bo Stokes, and Mr. Walker Lilly.

The Services to Celebrate the Life of Mr. Shankle will be on Friday, September 6, 2024, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, North Carolina.

The Shankle Family will be receiving friends on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 12:30-1:00pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel and at all other times at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Tara (Miles) Bivens, Norwood, North Carolina.
