On Sunday, April 27, 2025, surrounded by the love and warmth of his cherished family, our beloved Out of Space DJ, “Doctor Soul”—affectionately known as “Daddy,” “Dad,” “Grandpa,” and “Papa”—Elmer Clayton Rhone ascended to his final resting place, leaving behind a legacy of joy and inspiration.
Elmer was born on August 1, 1950, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to the late Pearlie Josh and Annie Bell Holmes Rhone. He was educated in the Cumberland County School System and graduated from Armstrong High School in the Class of 1968.
He was united in Matrimony to Wilma Baggett Swinson, from this union a daughter was born and he gained a bonus son. Later, he was united in Matrimony to Helen Jeanette Streater, from this union a son was born and he gained a bonus son.
Elmer showed a strong work ethic from a young age and supported his family by eagerly learning and taking on challenges. His talent and creativity impressed everyone around him. He was our Iron Man. Elmer worked for many years at Toleram/Cookson Fibers, where he played a key role in the company’s success. He later retired from the Anson County Water Treatment Plant. He loved fishing, music, and cars, especially race cars. We will always remember these passions. Elmer was loved and respected by many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Josh, mother Annie Bell, brother Victor, son Terrell, sister Annette, and his beloved wife Helen.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Deirdre Linette Rhone of the home, sons, Darren Rashan Rhone (Hollie) and Warren Streater of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Aaron Rhone; granddaughters, Tiffiney McLaurin, Kortney Rhone, Nicole Streater, LaDashia Rhone, Aubrey Rhone and Amelia Rhone. Great grandsons, Tyriel, Xavier, Kash and Kobe. Great granddaughters, Nadia Rein, Athena and Serena.
Brothers, Josh Rhone (Henrietta) of Raeford, NC and Bobby J. Rhone (Deborah) of Ellenwood, Georgia and sisters, Linda Yearns (Steve) of Clayton, NC, Rosemary Matthews (Frankie) of Fayetteville, NC and Lisa K. Barnette of Belmont, NC.
He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews, special relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be announced at a later date by the Rhone Family.
