HAYWOOD THOMAS McCORMICK was born April 5, 1950, in Wadesboro, NC, to the late Cora Mae (Tillman) McCormick and James McCormick. He departed this life on May 25, 2024.
Haywood graduated from Bowman High School in 1969 and enlisted in the United States Army that same year. In 1973, he went on to study Welding and Vending Machine Maintenance at Richmond Technical Institute. In 1986, he earned the title of Refrigeration Service Technician via the Frick Company.
Haywood worked in refrigeration for many years at Holy Farms/Tyson Foods and Cuddy Farms/Wampler. During those years, he earned many certifications, including Ammonia and Industrial Refrigeration, Hazmat, and Leadership. He completed his career as Manager of Refrigeration at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Pageland, SC. Throughout his career, he met many people and made many lifelong friends. He could strike up a conversation with just about anybody.
Haywood also owned McCormick’s Handyman Service in the late 80’s. During that time, he worked on many houses in Anson and Union Counties.
Haywood loved fishing, collecting arrowheads, and working on his favorite truck.
Haywood was also an avid gardener. He could grow anything but hardly ever ate all of what he grew. He took joy in watching it grow. Many times, food from his garden was shared amongst family and friends.
He married the love of his life, Louisiana Jackson McCormick on January 1, 1972. To that union was born one daughter, Temeka McCormick Adams, who gave him the other two loves of his life, James (aka AJ) and Gage. He loved his grandsons dearly and cherished spending time with them.
Haywood was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Louisiana Jackson McCormick, and his brothers, John McCormick, James McCormick, Jr., and Raymond McCormick.
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter Temeka Adams (James), grandsons James and Gage; four sisters, Phillis McCormick (Ronnie), Sally Taylor, Dora Bennett, and Flora Little (Jimmy); one brother, Alexander McCormick. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
The Homegoing Services will be on Thursday, May 30, 2024, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Westview Memorial Park, Polkton, North Carolina.
The McCormick Family will greet family and friends on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 12:30-1:00pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel and at all other times at the residence.
