Henry Wilson Joines was born on February 23, 1945, in Chesterfield, South Carolina. He was the second oldest of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents Abraham Lincoln Joines, Lavern Ratliff., and his stepmother, Alean Jones. Henry entered into eternal rest on January 7, 2026.
Henry attended Deep Creek High School and, after completing his education, began working various jobs. He eventually found his passion after moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he reunited with his older brother, James D. Ratliff, who preceded him in death. Henry spent many years working in the carpet industry, where he worked diligently from 1972 until his health began to decline in the mid-2000s.
Henry never married and had no children, but he was deeply loved by all who knew him. He was known as an easy-going, soft-spoken man who valued peace and simplicity. Though he understood the realities of life, he lived by the wisdom found in Scripture, often reflecting the truth of “Mind your own business” (1 Thessalonians 4:11). His quiet strength and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on those around him.
Henry was preceded in death by his brother James D. Ratliff and his sister Linda Faye Chiselom. He leaves behind cherished memories with his siblings: Robert Lee Joines of Washington, D.C.; Abraham Joines of Wadesboro, N.C.; Larry Joines of Washington, D.C., two sisters Margaret Lindsey (Michael) of Laurinburg, N.C.; Lois Starnes of Washington DC and his sister-in-law Helen Ratliff of Charlotte NC. He is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Henry’s life was a quiet testimony of humility, perseverance, and grace. Though his presence was gentle, his impact will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
