Obituary For MR. IRVIN POLK
Irvin James Polk was born on January 26, 1960, in Anson County, NC, to the late Levander and Lucille Thomas Polk. He transitioned to his new home on Saturday, June 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and son.
Irvin was preceded in death by two sisters, Doretha P. Smith and Deborah Polk, as well as four brothers: Willie Polk, Dennis Polk, Levander Polk Jr., and Calvin Polk.
He was a proud graduate of Bowman Senior High School in Wadesboro, NC, Class of 1978, where he was an avid basketball player. Immediately after graduation, Irvin joined the United States Army, serving his country honorably.
During his time in the Army, Irvin married the love of his life, Sindey Knotts Polk in the year of 1981. Over the course of his 20 years of service, he attended Gaston State College in Alabama, Temple University, Tennessee State University, and Stratford Career Institute. After receiving an honorable discharge, he worked at General Tire in Charlotte, NC, served as a Correctional Officer at Brown Creek Correctional Institute, and worked at Walmart in Wadesboro, NC. Irvin was known as a devoted husband, father, brother, and dedicated worker.
Irvin leaves behind cherished memories with his loving wife, Sindey Polk, and his dear sons, Rontavous and Shontavous Polk. He is survived by his siblings: Daisy P. Little (Joe) of Fayetteville, NC; Rev. Vanessa P. Clark (Lewis) of Monroe, NC; Rev. Barbara P. Ross of Waxhaw, NC; 1st Lady Tina P. Maye (Rev. Eddie); and Jacob Polk of Wadesboro, NC. He also leaves behind one aunt, Mary Wright of Monroe, NC; his mother-in-law, Prophetess Celria K. Byrd of Wadesboro, NC; two sisters-in-law, Bertha P. Polk of Petersburg, VA, and Findey Knotts of Wadesboro, NC; and a special cousin, Deon Medlin (Jackie) of Lilesville, NC. Additionally, he is remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Homegoing Services will be on Sunday, June 29, 2025, 1:00 pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Westview Memorial Park, Polkton, North Carolina.
The Polk Family will greet family and friends on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 12:30-1:-00 pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel and daily from 3:00-9:00 pm at the residence of Prophetess Celria Byrd, mother-in-law, 2195 West Wall Street, Wadesboro, NC.
