MR. JAMES TURNER

Passed 05/19/2021

Obituary For MR. JAMES TURNER

Our beloved, James Lee Turner, age 72, entered Heaven’s Gate, Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at home resting peacefully. Born March 4, 1949, in Stanly County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late John Dee and Judy Wall Turner. James brought great joy to everyone he met. We feel a great void in our hearts but a blessing to have been a part of his life. His legacy lives on in our hearts through shared stories, experiences, and memories. James received his formal education in the Stanly County Public Schools and graduated from South Stanly High School, Norwood, NC with the Class of 1968. After graduation, James went to work at Collins & Aikman in Norwood, NC and soon transferred to Collins & Aikman in Albemarle, NC where he worked for 35 years and retired. He then went to work at Gentry Mills where he worked dutifully until his illness. A man of faith, James and his family enjoyed membership at St. Luke Church in Badin, NC. In his leisure, besides working on his days off, he enjoyed working outside in his yard and taking trips to South Carolina to go fishing and crabbing, something he loved to do. James enjoyed watching old tv shows, CNN, racing and boxing. His new favorite hobby was fixing up his buildings in his backyard. Despite his fallen illness, James always had a good laugh for you, and I mean the laugh to where you would have to hold your side, gut, and all, cause whatever he was going to say would have you hollering in tears. Every day was a good one; those were the good ole days. He had a love for cats as well, especially his own in which he named her “Pepper Mae Turner.” His greatest joy of all was spending time with family and many friends. He and Helen Turner were happily married for 27 years. James was loved by so many. He never met anyone that was a stranger and would help anybody that he could. He has finished his course and has joined his parents, John Dee and Judy Wall Turner, his beloved brother, John Dee Turner Jr. and a beloved sister, Mary Turner Williams. He leaves to cherish his loving, devoted wife, Helen Turner of the home; daughters, Tina D. Turner of Albemarle, NC, Regina Davis of Ansonville, NC, Kimberly (Marion) Howard of Charleston, SC; sons, Mario M. Turner, Marcus D. Turner (Anita) and Brian Gregg all of Albemarle, NC and Allen Gregg of Lancaster, PA; 21 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. His sisters, Mary Hall (Libby) of Albemarle, NC, Willie Mae Gaddy (Johnny) of New London, NC and Retha (Londell) Alford of High Point, NC; mother-in-law, Rosalee Gregg; sisters-in-law, Carol (Rev. Charles) McLamore and Brenda Steed of Charleston, SC; brother-in-law, Larry Gregg of Charleston, SC; special friends, Gregg Tyson, John Jones, Eric Thaggard, Bobby Sides and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, May 29, 2021, 12:00 noon, Smith's Funeral Home, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Albemarle, North Carolina.

The Turner Family will greet family and friends on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 11:30am-12:00noon at Smith's Funeral Home.

Smith's Funeral Directors require that masks be worn at all times during the visitation and service.

I want to offer my sympathy to the family. I remember him as being my brotherâ??s (Melvin) best friend growing up during the sixties in Norwood on Brick Yard Hill. Lately every time I saw him, heâ??d ask how my brother was doing and when I spoke with my brother, he would ask if I had heard anything from James. It was hard for me to tell my brother that his friend JAMES LEE TURNER had passed. Melvin was extremely saddened. We are praying for the family.

RIP Classmate - From the first grade in 1956 Lakeview Elementary School, Norwood, NC, to Kingville High School, Albemarle, NC 1965, and to South Stanly High School, Norwood, NC 1968 graduation, we were classmates. James was an awesome student. He was smart, friendly, good humor and an all-around good person. There are several things that I will remember about my classmate. He had a big and an infectious 'SMILE'. From the 1950's through 2021, it was GOD's Mercy and his Grace that saw him through life, and us, as well. I want express my sympathy for the loss of your love one. May God continue to bless each of you abundantly. Amen. Johnny Wall
