Mr. Larry Darnell McDonald, son of the late Wade LeGrand and Katie McDonald Gould, was born on the 9th month, 10th day, 1956, as he often recited his date of birth.
Larry, also known as "Hood and "Pa Rug" received his formal education in the public schools of Richmond County, North Carolina, and was a proud graduate of Richmond Senior High School, Class of 1977.
He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Airy AME Zion Church during his earlier years.
Larry was first employed by United Mills in Mt. Gilead and later worked for Jacob’s Creek Stone Company, Inc. in Denton, North Carolina, where he eventually retired due to health concerns.
Those who preceded him in death include his parents; two sisters, Vendella Young and Jacqueline Autry; and his grandmother, Carrie Mae McRae.
Larry leaves to cherish his loving memories: his brothers, Kenny McDonald (Marnita) of the home and Jeffrey LeGrand (Jhacole) of Houston, Texas; his stepmother, Betty LeGrand of Fayetteville, North Carolina; his brother-in-law, Bobby Young of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina; two aunts, Rebecca Lilly (Dorseph) and Alee Meyers; special nieces, Khristian Moye and Navia Crump; special cousin, Fay LeGrand Simon; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Larry will be deeply missed, but the love and memories he shared with family and friends will forever remain in our hearts.
The Services to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mr. McDonald will be on Saturday, March 7, 2026, 12:00 noon, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Mount Airy AME Zion Church Cemetery, Mount Gilead, North Carolina.
