Mr. Thomas Edward Harris was born on September 19, 1943 in Anson County, NC to the late J.C. Harris and Occie Bell Ledbetter Harris. He departed this life on August 18, 2002 at Atrium Health in Monroe, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bobby Joe, James Ray, Melton Harris; and one sister, Shelia Harris Rorie.
Thomas joined Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Polkton, North Carolina at an early age. He later joined Greater Grace Community Baptist Church, Marshville, North Carolina. He served as a Trustee, Layman and a member of the Yard Crew.
Thomas attended schools in Anson and Union Counties growing up. He was a self-taught person and developed many skills. He loved to work with his hands and worked in Construction and as a Brick Mason for Neal Hubbard Construction Company. Upon retiring, he built himself a workshop and could often be found putting things together or taking them apart. He called it “tinkering.”
Thomas was a “man of few words” but when he spoke it was profound. To many, he was known as “The Bull.” He was serious; but, often unintentionally funny. Many enjoyed just sitting in his presence.
He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Michelle Houston (James) of Monroe, North Carolina; two sons, Fredrick and Terry Harris of Polkton, North Carolina; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Parker (Curtis) of Wingate, North Carolina; one foster brother, Eugene Thomas of Wadesboro, North Carolina; a “special” aunt, Myrtle Haywood of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Homegoing Services will be on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, 1:00pm, Greater Grace Community Missionary Baptist Church, Marshville, North Carolina. Interment will be in the family plot of the Church Cemetery.
The public viewing for Mr. Harris will be on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 4:15-6:30pm at Smith's Funeral Home, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
