Mrs. Darlene Hall Burns, daughter of the late Bessie Mae Hall and Robert Thomas Bennett, was born in Anson County on January 14, 1961. She gracefully transitioned from this life on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at her residence, enveloped in the warmth and love of her devoted husband, Johnny, and her children.
Darlene began her educational journey in the public schools of Anson County, where she laid the foundation for her academic future. She continued her education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating from William Penn High School. Driven by ambition, Darlene enrolled at Shaw University, the first black HBCU in Raleigh, North Carolina. There, she devoted herself to her studies and, after several years of hard work and dedication, earned her bachelorβs degree in business administration in 1983, equipping herself with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the business world.
Darlene dedicated 18 years of her career to Tyson Foods. Following her time there, she spent almost 20 years as a Case Manager for Union County Community Action Head Start. In this role, she supported families in need, helping them access essential services and resources to improve their well-being and foster early childhood education.
Darlene cherished visiting her Westgate timeshare, where each trip felt like a new adventure. She traveled far and wide, exploring diverse destinations around the globe. She relished every moment, whether basking on sun-soaked beaches or wandering through vibrant city streets. Most importantly, she treasured the time spent with her relatives in Philadelphia, sharing laughter and creating lasting memories in the warmth of family gatherings.
Darlene was united in Holy Matrimony with Johnny Lamar Burns, and from this cherished union, they welcomed two beautiful children into the world: Darnell Burns and Brittany Burns. Darlene had a passion for traveling and cherished every moment she spent with her family, creating lasting memories together.
In addition to her parents, Robert and Bessie, Darlene was preceded in death by her sister, Deborah Denise, who passed away at birth; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Claude and Myrtle Burns; brother-in-law, Claude Burns III; and sister-in-law, Teresa Gainey.
Left to cherish her memories forever is her loving and devoted husband, Johnny L. Burns, who stood by her side for an incredible 40 years. Together, they have built a life filled with love and shared experiences in their home. She is survived by two adoring children, Darnell Burns of Albemarle, NC, and Brittany Burns of Norwood, NC, both hold fond memories of their mother's unwavering support and affection.
She is also remembered by her brother, Rev. Anthony D. Hall (Christine) and eight sisters: Shirley Garris (James), Brenda Miller (James), Cynthia Melton, Anita Leak, Ophelia Sturdivant, Sarah Stewart (Frankie), Sophia McLendon, and Alesia Little (Wayne); brothers and sisters-in-law: Tommy Joe Burns, Terral Burns (Kendra), Pondra Burns (Angel), Dwight Burns Sr. (Takela), and Ronalt Gainey. She is also cherished by a wide circle of relatives and friends, including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved co-workers, and friends, all of whom she held close to her heart. Each individual carries a piece of her legacy, ensuring she will never be forgotten. Her love and kindness made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
The Services to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mrs. Burns will be on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 2:00pm, at Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow the services at Flake Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Wadesboro, North Carolina.

This is I know very painful to many she was a pillar for the community. Darlene was a great wife, mother, sister and friend! She was the first friend that advised me about relationships and I carry what she said to me until this day. She was a constant and I know she will be sorely missed. To her husband, children, and family members there are no word to express the grief and sadness you must feel. I am and will continue to pray your strength as you navigate the loss of your loved one β₯οΈππΎβ₯οΈππΎ
