Obituary For MRS. DEBORAH MCDONALD RORIE
Deborah McDonald Rorie was born on December 13, 1957 and departed on Tuesday Evening, July 7, 2026 with her Loving Husband and Devoted Daughters by her side. Known to everyone as “Bo”, “Borah” or “Tootie”. “Bo” was given by her Paternal Family, “Borah” was given to her by her Maternal Family. “Tootie” is a term of endearment given to her by her Uncle Walter. Debo is the name all of her Sisters-In-Law call her. Deborah fought valiantly until the end, as she gained her wings and answered the call to be with Jesus and rejoin her Youngest Daughter, Chick.
Deborah McDonald was named by her Grandmother, who she called “Mama”. She was named after the Judge, Deborah, in the Bible, (Judges 4:4). Mrs. Nannie raised Deborah in the home until she passed away. Deborah is known by the community of 52 North, her teachers, friends, and neighbors as being quiet, smart, hardworking, and a good student. She was educated in Anson County Schools and graduated from Bowman High School in 1976. Deborah then pursued her education through the then Anson Tech Community College. She obtained her Association degree in Education. Later, she received her CDA as an educator in the Early Childhood Education Field.
Deborah started in the workforce at Chic Hosiery. It was said that she could pull the pantyhose and move them down the line twice as fast as most workers. She was impressive and always willing to work to help her family. Next, she was employed at Polynesian Prints Apparel. After her second child started her schooling at Faison Headstart, she volunteered in the classroom, which led to her employment. Mrs. Rorie stayed in the education field for the rest of her life, for 38 years. Deborah had a gift for working with Pre-K and young children. She has taught hundreds of students. Those students grew up, and she taught their children too.
Deborah and her family attended Bowen’s Chapel Holiness Church, where she confessed Christ at an early age. Later, she would move her membership to the Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Marshville, with her husband and family. Sister Deborah was a faithful member until her untimely and unexpecting passing. She taught Vacation Bible School, served on the Missionary Ministry, the Culinary Ministry, and would work and help anywhere needed in the Church.
Mrs. Rorie was known to be an excellent teacher, a nonjudgmental, but encouraging advisor to young mothers and youth. Mostly, she was known for her Beautiful smile and helping heart. Deborah was always generous, giving to help others in need, often quietly slipping money into someone’s hand to congratulate them on a job well done, or to Bless them, or to help them with needs. She would often ask the Lord to show her who to Bless today! Debo was known for her famous macaroni and cheese, and rice casserole. She always made a big pan so everyone could have extra helpings. Her goal was to always teach. Especially her Pre-K students. Mrs. Rorie advised many who had concerns about the growth and development of their children and stated that she always gave them solid advice that led to positive results. Her work friends were her true friends and family. Mrs. Rorie is famous for her hugs and love!
Mrs. Deborah McDonald Rorie was preceded in death by her Baby Girl, Cantranece Debrena Rorie “Chick”; Grandparents, who raised her, Nannie Mae McDonald Thomas, and Mr. Paul D. Thomas; her parents Lizzie Jane McDonald Simon and Joe Louis Duncan, Grandparents James and Beulah Mae Cash Duncan, her Uncle who raised her in the home, Walter T. McDonald (Bertha).
She leaves to cherish her memories, her Loving Husband: Willie Jay Rorie, 3 children: Kam A. McDonald, Holly V. McDonald, and Willie R. Marsh (Erika); Grandchildren: Reagan Olivia Capel, Emari D. Marsh, Willie K. Marsh, Destinee Allen, and Dei’Keibren Allen; one Special Niece: Dinisha Rorie Jarrell (Travis); 5 Siblings: Shelia L. Merritt, Regina R. Ingram, Kimberly F. Simon, Scottie C. Simon, LuShawn J. Simon; A Special Aunt who considers “Bo” her own: Sarah Frances Leak, Uncle Amos Duncan (Margaret), Aunts Edna Gordon and Emma Smith; Sisters-in-Law: Mary E. Rorie, Shirley E. Crowder (Danny), Wanda Jordan (Roger), Hattie Jeanette Thomas (Tony), and Joyce A. Moore (Bobby); Brothers-In-Law: Earnest Lee Rorie (Margaret), James Calvin Rorie (Delphinia), Clarence Alexander Rorie (Lucinder), Joel E. Rorie (Francis), and Perry Rorie (Angela); Special Extended Family Members and Friends from the “Chat and Chew” and Birthday Club of retired and current staff of UCCA Headstart.
The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, July 18, 2026, 2:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in the family plot of the Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Marshville, North Carolina.
The Rorie family will greet family and friends on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 1:00-2:00pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel and at all other times at the family
We honor her memory and the impact she had on all who knew her.

From my initial start with the UCCA organization last August, Mrs. Rorie was always a warm light that I could count on regardless of the weather. She was a kind heart, and had a laughter that I will truly miss. My deepest sympathies to the family, as there truly cannot be another woman to quite live up to her legacy and the love for those around her.

Mrs. Rorie was one of my teachers in head start. She was a great person and one of the best teachers I ever had. Her and Mrs. Herring were always good to me over the years.
