Obituary For MRS. ELIZABETH GADDY HUDSON
Elizabeth Gaddy Hudson, 91, of Polkton, NC, peacefully departed this life on August 22, 2026, at her granddaughter’s residence, surrounded by love. Born in Anson County, NC, to the late Bradley Adam Gaddy and Molly Bright McCormick Gaddy, Elizabeth's life was a testament to resilience and faith.
Growing up during the Great Depression, Elizabeth attended the public schools of Anson County. On December 15, 1951, she married the love of her life, James Robert Hudson. Together, they created a home filled with love and devotion.
From her early years, Elizabeth was deeply rooted in her faith, attending Pee Dee Baptist Church and Savannah AME Zion Church as a child. The distance she walked to church and school never deterred her spirit.
In 1971, she and James moved to Lilesville, NC where they resided for 55 years.
After marriage, Elizabeth joined Parson Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Elizabeth became a dedicated member, attending Sunday School and serving in various capacities until her passing. Her love for the Word of God was evident, as she often led children to church and cherished her Pastor Parson.
Elizabeth was a devoted homemaker, known for her nurturing nature. In the evenings, she cared for the elderly, embodying compassion and kindness. She lovingly took care of her mother, father, brother, and husband in their times of need, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to family.
Elizabeth had a unique ability to gather information and connect with others. Even while sitting in her chair, she was always aware of what was happening around her. Her home was a welcoming haven where her strict rules were balanced with love. During storms, she would gather her children, praying for their safety with a fierce devotion that reflected her spirit as a prayer warrior.
Elizabeth leaves to cherish her loving memory her nine beloved children: Marion Hudson Miller of Wingate, NC; Robert (Villa C) Hudson of Wadesboro, NC; Horace (Rev. Joyce) Hudson of Wadesboro, NC; James (Sandy) Hudson Jr. of Wadesboro, NC; Gloria Wall of Polkton, NC; Willie (Kathy) Hudson of Wadesboro, NC; Madie Huntley of Morven, NC; Timothy (Sandra) Hudson of Monroe, NC; and Darren (Dianne) Hudson of Monroe, NC. She is also survived by three stepchildren: Dorothy Little of Charlotte, NC; Brenda Settle and Dinnetta (Tony) Carelock, both of Wadesboro, NC.
Mother Hudson was blessed with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren totaling 120 and reflecting five generations. She is also survived by one brother, Lee Thomas Gaddy of Wadesboro, NC; two sisters, Betty (Deacon Bobby) Blakney of Morven, NC, and Burnette Bennett of Wadesboro, NC; one sister-in-law, Mother Sallie Hudson of Wadesboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Bradley and Molly Gaddy; her beloved husband, James Robert Hudson; eight siblings; five grandchildren; and three sons-in-law.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
The Homegoing Services will be on Sunday, August 30, 2026, 3:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery, Sandy Ridge Church Road, Morven, North Carolina.

Hard to even take this. My Family and the Hudson Family was neighbors from the 60's till today. From her children to my Grandmother's Children down to the Grand children, we all are family. She was a Very Spiritual woman of God and She PRAYED OVER ME A LOT BEFORE I WENT TO SCHOOL AS A CHILD. SHE IS GONNA BE MISSED. SHE WAS ONE OF THE REASONS I MOVED BACK HOME AFTER 20 YEARS . REST WELL MOTHER HUDSON.
My heartfelt condolences to the Hudson family. My brother Robert (Jr) is her grandson, so I have been knowing her all my life. When I was little girl, she always feed me and my sister the most delicious food and homemade biscuits when we would visit often. Elizabeth and husband James Robert were always so good to us and had us laughing a lot.

Grandma, I am going to miss you so much. I will always remember you telling me that I was going to run up my phone bill calling from Boston, MA—lol! You always remembered my birthday, you loved the camera and always put on a show for your grandkids, and kept us laughing. I will cherish those memories and so many more forever.
