Obituary For Mrs. Gloria Jean Pickett Allen

Gloria Jean Pickett Allen was born November 14th, 1964, to the late Walter B. Pickett and Johnsie Mae Pickett. Gloria was known by her nickname “Aunt G,” whom her nieces and nephews called her. God called her home on Thursday, December 26th, 2024, at Atrium Health Union in Monroe, NC. She was surrounded by family when God called her home.

Gloria attended and graduated from Bowman Senior High School, Class of 1983. Gloria confessed and accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Asa L. Bell Sr. of First Baptist Church, which was on Ballard Street in Wadesboro. She was employed by Tyson Foods in Monroe for many years.

Gloria was loved by many, and she loved everyone. She was known for always wanting to put steaks on the grill. She loved to cook and eat, but most of all, she loved her kids and grandkids. Gloria and her sisters had started a trend of going out to have breakfast once a month at The Famous Golden Corral. If you know, then you know…lol

Larry aka Pookie: The world changes year by year, and our lives change from day to day. I will never forget the day you entered the world and the day you left. My love and memories of you will never change. Love you, Hunni, and get your rest. Love always and forever, your SonShine.

Krystal: Her mom was good at listening. No matter what she would go to her mom about, she always would give her the best advice. Whether she liked it or not, her mom would keep it 100 with her, and she would miss that alone just missing the physical presence of her mom.

Daquantae aka DJ: His mom was a good mother and friend and was always there for him. She was a nurturing and caring mother. She would always give him advice whether it was good or bad, and she lived by the motto of her late husband Charles who was a “Ride or Die” and that DJ was her protector.

Shaquantae, aka Mesha: I’m going to the relationship you left behind with your grandkids and hearing them call you PawPaw…lol. They refused to call you grandma after many attempts to get them to call you by the correct name. I’m going to miss your presence just being here on Earth. I love you and miss you, mama.

Zyronia aka Nae Nae: This is your oldest grandchild. I know you loved you some Nae Nae. I’m going to miss you so much. You always told me that I can’t always depend on my mama and daddy. Grandma, it’s time for me to step it up and get a job. You always told me the truth about myself, even if I was wrong. I’m going to miss this from you. Take your rest and you will be missed, and I love you.

Gloria was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend who made many sacrifices for her family. Proceeding her in death were her husband, Charles Lee Allen, and her parents, Walter and Johnsie Pickett. One child, Marricus Hough. Two sisters, Mary McIver and Shelby Pickett. Two brothers, James Pickett and William Pickett. Her maternal and paternal grandparents. Two nephews, Shaun Pickett and Rasheem Henderson, and one niece, Makita Smith.

Gloria leaves to cherish her memories: Her sons, Larry Pickett of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Daquantae, aka DJ Hough of Wadesboro. Her daughters Krystal Pickett and Shaquante Hough of Lilesville and five grandchildren. Zyronia Sturdivant of Wingate, Joshua Polk aka Man, Joshia Polk aka JoJo, A’Journie Hough aka Ladybug and Omaria Pickett of Lilesville. She leaves behind four sisters, Gwendolyn Henderson (Raymond) of Lilesville, Queenie Lee (Keith Lee) Carolyn Pickett and Torsha Little all of Wadesboro. She also leaves her memories behind to a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Her aunts, Lannie Robinson of Wadesboro, Betty Parker of High Point, and Catherine Pickett of Lilesville. Two uncles, James Pickett (Betty) of Lilesville and Walter Henry of High Point, NC and a host of cousins and many friends. She had special friends: Larry Hough, Chrissy Little, Nancy Price, and Retha Little.

The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, January 4, 2024, 12:30pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow the service at Bessie Chapel AME Zion Church Cemetery, 3003 Ingram Mountain Road, Lilesville, North Carolina.

The family will be receiving friends at the home of her son, 933 Pine Terrace, #304, Wadesboro, North Carolina.

The public viewing will be on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 3:30-5:30pm.
