Argie Victoria Garris, known to all as “Pig,” was born September 24, 1966, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, to the late Vessal Garris Sr. and Louise Taylor Sellers. She peacefully transitioned home on Sunday, April 21, 2024, with her beloved family standing right by her side.
Her name, “Argie Victoria,” was given by her late big brother, “Vessal Garris Jr.” who absolutely loved the old western television show “The Big Valley.” Vessal combined the names of two of the main characters in the show, Audra Barkley (the daughter) + Victoria Barkley (the mother), and he came up with the name Argie Victoria. The definition of these two names is astounding and fitting for such a loving and caring queen. Argie means “All Seeing,” and Victoria means “Victory.” These two meanings together show us that We are “All seeing the Victory” in her life.
Argie attended Anson County Public Schools and graduated from Bowman Senior High School in 1984. While in school, she participated in school cheer and was one of the most beautiful cheerleaders on the team, inside and out. She loved taking long car rides, going on vacations, spending time with her family, listening to music, and dancing. Three of her greatest pride and joys were her daughter, Javonda Garris, her son, Tyvonderlessand her granddaughter, Shavonda Garris. She loved them with every breath in her body.
Argie accepted Christ at an early age and joined East Rock Ford Baptist Church; later, through the years, she began visiting other churches within the area as often as she could. Argie was full of life, very kind and soft-spoken; she never met a stranger.
Argie was preceded in death by her parents, Vessal Garris Sr, and Louise Taylor Sellers, her brothers, Lee Thomas Garris, Vessal Garris Jr., Sylvester Garris, Haywood Garris, Ricky Garris, Wille Garis, Jerry Garis, and her sisters, May Helen Garris, Janice Garris, Helen Jean Garris, and Louise Garris.
She leaves to cherish the memories of his laughter and smiles to her loving daughter and son, Javonda Victoria Garris and Tyvonderless Garris-Wadesboro, NC; Granddaughter, Shavonda Garris-Wadesboro, NC; Brother, Charles Garris-Wadesboro, NC; Sisters, Ernestine Richardson (James Richardson)-Wadesboro, NC and Michelle Garris Sakpedeh (Floyd Sakpedeh)-Indian Trail NC, and a host of nieces, cousins, and friends.
The Homegoing Services will be on Sunday, April 28, 2024, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Westview Memorial Park, Polkton, North Carolina.
