Some find their strength in their weapons and wisdom, but my miracle-deliverance can never be won by men. Our boast is in Yahweh our God, who makes us strong and gives us victory. Psalm 20:7 TPT
After courageously fighting the good fight of faith for nearly five years, the Lord, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, called Ms. Shirley Denise Lowery home. Her days of suffering came to an end as He sent His angel for her peaceful return to Him at approximately 12:50 a.m. on March 19, 2026, at Atrium Health Hospice and Palliative Care Union. She departed this life in peace, with a gentle smile on her face.
Ms. Shirley Denise Lowery was born in Wadesboro, North Carolina, on July 15, 1970, to the late Mr. Richard Baker and Mrs. Catherine Lowery Gaddy. She was a proud graduate of Anson High School, Class of 1991, and was deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her.
Shirley was a dedicated and hardworking woman who committed over 25 years of service to Tyson Foods in Monroe, North Carolina. She was a packer until her health journey began.
From a young age, faith was a part of Shirley’s life. She grew up attending Gatewood Station AME Zion Church alongside her grandmother, the late Rev. Orlean F. Allen, who played a significant role in shaping her spiritual foundation. She later attended Sneedsboro AME Zion Church and continued her journey of faith as a devoted member of New Parker’s Grove AME Zion Church, where she served faithfully. In her later years, she joined House of Faith Outreach Ministries, a place she often expressed was where she “found her family.” Her love for God and for her church family was unwavering.
If you knew Shirley, you knew her love for people. She never met a stranger—everyone she encountered quickly became her “cuz,” whether related by blood or not. One of her greatest joys was playing spades, a pastime that brought her laughter, connection, and countless cherished memories with family and friends. Her warm spirit and genuine love for others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Shirley will be remembered for her strength, her enduring faith, her loving spirit, and the warmth she extended to everyone she encountered. Even in the midst of her illness, she remained a testimony of grace, resilience, and peace.
She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, Mrs. Harriet Lowery and Mr. J.T. McCoy, and Mr. Robert and Louise Baker Chambers. Her only brother and best friend, Minister Fredrick Lowery. Her uncles, Mr. Robert Lowery, Mr. Sylvester Lowery, Mr. David Lowery, Mr. Byron Baker, and Mr. Thomas Baker.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her four children, Sharon Tillman of Indian Trail, North Carolina, Gerald Lowery, Saduchess Covington, and Mya Green, all of Wadesboro, NC. Her seven grandchildren: Jayden Tillman, Jaila Tillman, Destiney Covington, Nevaeh Lindsay, Juliana Tillman, Chance Hamilton, and Zyion Hamilton. One sister-in-law, Karen Lowery of Wadesboro, NC. Her nieces, Whitney Lowery of Albemarle, NC, and Ebony Gibson of Chesterfield, SC. Her favorite nephew, Fredrick Lowery, of Wadesboro, NC. One great nephew, Kamari Willoughby, and one great niece, Zyla Lowery. A special aunt, who raised her and cared for her as her own, Brenda (Jerry) Sturdivant of Morven, NC. Ann Smith of Wadesboro, NC Pauline (Alex) Pressley, High Point, NC, Karen (Danny) Bleu of Winston Salem, NC, Farnice (Ronnie) Lindsey, of Morven, NC, Minnie (Douglas) Ingram of Norwood, NC, Louvenia (Pat) Davis, of Norwood, NC, Faye Baker, Norwood, NC, Marilyn (Purnell) Robinson of High Point, NC; four uncles, Mr. Joe (Sarah) Baker of High Point, NC, Mr. James Thomas McCoy of Charlotte, NC, and Mr. Walter McCoy of Morven, NC and Reverend David (Barbara) Gaddy, and a host of cousins who were like her siblings, and friends.
The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, March 28, 2026, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be in the Flat Rock 52 Memorial Park, Morven, North Carolina.
