Obituary For Bobbie L Hicks,Sr

His Life…His Love…His Legacy] Bobbie Lee Hicks, Sr. was one of five children born to Hattie and Tommie Hicks on May 27, 1930 in Reynolds, Georgia. The family relocated to Clearwater, Florida. Bobbie was a product of the School District of Pinellas County. He was drafted into the United States Army where he served as Sergeant in the Korean War.

On May 20, 1953, he married Cora Worthy, who preceded him in death. To this union were born seven children- Timothy, Bobbie Jr., Terry, Rickey, Eric, Roderick, and Tara. Bobbie was remarried on November 4, 2001 to Evelyn Thornton. A proud husband, father, and grandfather, Bobbie’s greatest personal success and fulfillment were found in his family.

Bobbie was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully served for over forty years. In 2002, he moved his membership to Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church to worship with his wife. Bobbie commenced a brilliant career in management with Tarpon Chevrolet in which he retired after serving for over 35 years. To satisfy his desire to remain active, he worked for the City of Tarpon Springs Recreation Department for 20 years retiring in December of 2014, with the City proclaiming December 23, 2014 as Bobbie Hicks Day. Bobbie was affiliated with St. Safford Lodge #67 where he served as Secretary for over forty years; Rose Hill Cemetery Board of Directors where he held the positions of Vice President and Chairman, and a member of the Northside Men’s Club.

Bobbie transitioned from this life to his eternal home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Although he was preceded in death by his mother Hattie Rollins (Charlie), his father Tommie Hicks, his wife Cora Hicks, his sons Bobbie Jr. (Lorrine), and Roderick Hicks, his granddaughter Blair Hicks Cason, his siblings Allie Ready, Catherine Harvey, Paul Hicks, and Carlton Hicks, and his Godson Charles Roberts, Jr., many are left to cherish his memory; a loving wife Evelyn Thornton-Hicks; devoted sons Timothy Hicks, Sr. (Queen), Edward Duncan, Terry Hicks, Sr. (Early), Rickey Hicks (Sonja), Eric Hicks (Mia), Judge D. Thornton, Jr. (Debra), Clyde Thornton (partner Megan) and adoring daughter Tara Hicks; twenty two grandchildren, Roderick Hicks, Timothy Hicks II, Krystle Cobb (Jacob), Brandon Hicks, Melissa Hicks, Kimberly Hicks, Barak Hargrett (Regine), Temeshia Jones (Ozell), Terry Hicks, Jr., Jo’el Hicks, Yolanda Canady, Brittani Hicks-Cooper (Brandon), JaKhari Hicks, Ernetta Edwards, Adrena McNeill, Sha’Erica Hicks, Anesia Hicks-Jackson, Judge D. Thornton III, Briahna Thornton, Grayson Vosburgh, and Saylor Thornton; fifteen great grandchildren, Jacob Cobb II, Brandon Hicks, Jr., Raniah Hargrett, Raelyn Hargrett, Bentley Hargrett, Ramah’ Hicks, Zo’Myah Jones, Zo’Ell Jones, Antonio Evans, Antinesha Brooks, Ta’Raji Cooper, Imari Cooper, Matthew Edwards, Arielle Edwards, and Symphoni James; sister in laws Flossie Edwards, Imogene Jefferson, Leila Cook, Erma Sales, Elizabeth Shelton, Thelma Crawford, and Willie Mae McCrory; brother in laws Augusta Sales, Damon Hardison, and Frank Ramsey, Sr.; Goddaughters Karen Simon (Johnny), and Alicia Porter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving and caring friends.

Close family and friends are invited to attend a socially distance Celebration Of Life service on January 11, 2021, at Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church, 400 South Levis Avenue, Tarpon Springs, Florida 34689. Viewing/Visitation will be from 10:00 am-11:00 am. Service will begin at 11:00 am. In lieu of physical attendance and in an effort to comply with the CDC guidelines and recommendations, you are encouraged to live stream the service which will be available on the Smith-Youngs Funeral Home website.
