Obituary For Earl Rayner

Earl Rayner, 78, passed away at his home in Clearwater, Florida on December 30, 2020. Earl was born on August 7, 1942, in Clearwater, Florida to Thomas Z. Rayner and Lillie Mae M. Rayner and was the third of 7 children.

Earl attended Pinellas County Schools, where he met his wife of 57 years Harriet (Singletary) Rayner. They married in 1963. After graduating from Pinellas High School, Earl went on to matriculate at Gibbs Junior College and later completed his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida. He earned a degree in Sociology but began his career as a Quality Assurance Engineer. He worked for Honeywell and eventually earned Engineer of the Year. He later worked for several international engineering firms, which included him establishing engineering plants in Latin America and Asia. Despite his professional achievements, Earl was most proud of being a devoted husband and father.

Earl is survived by his loving wife, Harriet; children Michael Rayner, Michele Rayner-Goolsby(Bianca Goolsby); grandson, Matthew Rayner; sisters Shirley Rayner-Bell(Cornelius) and Essie Mae Rayner-Jones. Other relatives and friends.

Close family and friends are invited to attend a socially distance Celebration Of Life service on January 9, 2021, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 2751 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759. Viewing/Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of physical attendance and in an effort to comply with the CDC guidelines and recommendations, people are encouraged to live stream the service which will be available on the Smith-Youngs Funeral Home website.
