Obituary For Eddie Mae Filer

Sister Eddie Mae Filer was born on March 17, 1940, in Snead, Florida to the late Ernest Cobb and Queen Ester Cobb.

She was a graduate of Union Grove High School, Class of 1958 in Greenwood, Florida, where she played basketball with the leading team.

Eddie Mae moved to Tallahassee, Florida and then to Clearwater, Florida. In 1971, she decided to purchase a home in Largo, Florida, where she raised her family.

She was employed with Maas Brothers, retiring after 25 years, the Pinellas County School Board, Publix Supermarket and as an Avon Consultant for over 20 years. Eddie Mae was an active member of the YMCA. She loved exercising, all kinds of sports, especially basketball, gardening and was an avid reader. She also loved sweets and her family.

She was a devoted member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church where she was involved in various ministries to include The Missionary Society, Usher Board and a Network Member for F.A.S.T.

Eddie Mae Filer departed this life on Monday, July 14, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Queen Esther Cobb, brother, Van Cobb, sisters, Bertha Cobb, Annie Pearl Jackson, Thelma Harvey, Angela Kier, Ernestine Cobb and Vera Currington, and son-in-law, Michael A. Blake, Sr.

She leaves to reflect and to cherish fond memories…

Daughters: Felicia Anne Blake and Karen Filer, both of Clearwater, FL

Son: Travis Filer (Annie) of Jacksonville, FL

Sisters: Mary Starker of Clearwater, FL, Carolyn Cobb of Trinity, FL, Linda Myrick of Jacksonville, FL, Edna Cobb of Tampa, FL, Ivy Wilson (Tom) of Spring Hill, FL, Queen Grandberry of Two Egg, FL, Cora Hughes (Donald) of Sacramento, CA and Loretta McFadden (Willie) of Largo, FL

Brothers: Louis Cobb of St. Petersburg, FL, Shawn Cobb of Tampa, FL and Elder Marion Cobb of Clearwater, FL

Daughter-in-law: Annie Filer

Brother-in-law: Tom Wilson

12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren

A host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
