James Battle Sr. was born on November 29, 1944, in Kingstree, South Carolina to the union of Allen Battle, Sr. and Jannie Battle. They had a family of six boys and five girls. James, along with two of his brothers, moved to Clearwater, Florida, where he later met and married Lizzie M. Gore. To this union they were blessed with five children. On November 5, 2006, James married Bertha L. Williams Young. James had several jobs, however, he retired from the City of Clearwater Parks and Recreation Department. He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Clearwater, Florida, where the Reverend Dr. Fleming Tarver is Pastor. On December 8, 2020, James Battle, Sr., made his transition from this earthly world to eternal rest. He is predeceased by his former wife, Lizzie M. Gore Battle, his parents, Allen Battle, Sr. and Jannie Battle, son, James Battle, Jr.,grandchildren, Alex Battle, Jr. and Sheryl Adams, brothers, William Battle, Samuel Battle and Allen Battle, Jr., sister-in-law, Hattie Battle and brother -in-law, David Crump.
