Jim Sullivan, a respected and long-serving member of the construction industry in Florida, passed away on June 29, 2024, at the age of 94.
Born on July 11, 1929, in Statesboro, Georgia, Jim lost his father at the age of 17. His mother then decided to move the family to Safety Harbor, Florida to live with her brother and sister-in-law. It was in Safety Harbor that Jim began his 72-year career in construction, initially working at the Dunedin Disposal Plant construction site.
Over the following decades, Jim became a master of multiple construction trades, though he always avoided electrical work. His exceptional skills, tireless work ethic, and reputation for flawless work made him a sought-after contractor, particularly in the areas of masonry and manhole building. Jim was the principal in laying the infrastructure for major projects like Countryside Mall, Clearwater Mall, and the Skycrest area of Clearwater.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was beloved in his community. He was a longstanding trustee at St. Paul AME Church in Safety Harbor, where he helped oversee the construction of a new building. Jim also freely offered his construction expertise to assist fellow homeowners with building and repair projects.
Remembered for his good humor, generosity, and unparalleled work ethic, Jim Sullivan leaves a lasting legacy as a dedicated craftsman and pillar of his community. He will be deeply missed.
