Rev. Alton Stanford, a retired Senior Recreation Therapist and ordained Minister, departed this life on October 29, 2025, after battling a long illness of Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 81 in Palm Harbor, Fl while surrounded by family. He was born in Gloster, LA, the oldest of 10 children to Alton, Sr. and Earnest Lee Stanford.
He served as a Deacon at New Zion M.B. Church in Buffalo, NY. After accepting his call to the ministry, he served as an associate minister at New Zion, as well as Mt. Mariah B.C. (Frierson/Kingston, LA.) and Nazarene B.C. (Donaldsonville, LA.).
Having been born on a farm, he became a lover of nature and spent most of his spare time taking care of his garden and orchard. Through his other talents, you may also find some of his ceramic artwork in the homes of family members and other Buffalonians.
He was a graduate of Second Ward High School and Grambling State University where he met and married his wife Brenda of 54 years.
