Celebrating the Life of Glenn Lamar Miles
September 23, 1954 to April 3, 2025
Glenn Miles passed away at age 70, leaving behind a garden full of red amaryllis, purple hearts, and memories that we will always cherish. He was born in Tifton, Georgia on September 23, 1954 to Shelton Lewis Miles and Annie Lee Parker. He was a musician at heart who could sing, play trumpet, and learn to play any song “by ear” on the piano. That natural rhythm always showed up -- whether he was playing with his band, The Soulful Temps, accompanying the choir at Christ’s Church or Springfield Baptist, or at home in the kitchen singing that soulful Sam Cooke song, “Change is Gonna Come” –coffee cup in hand.
From the time Glenn joined the Army at the age of 17, he was a master at the art of reinvention. After receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal, he left the Army, graduated college, became an accountant, a notary, and an entrepreneur. Each spring, Miles Business Solutions helped clients, friends, and family file their income tax returns. He owned a pool hall on Tifton’s south side; and was the only source of “jimbos” and sodas for the kids living near Washington Street. He has lived in Fort Jackson South Carolina, Germany, and spent many years raising a family in the metro Atlanta area.
Glenn had charisma. He was authentic and effortlessly funny. He had a talent for turning any situation into a reason to smile and could make light of the heaviest of topics in conversation. His final years were spent at his childhood home in Tifton, where he grew flowers, fruits and all types of vegetables. He showed us how a simple life can be a great life; and how all roads lead to home.
Glenn is survived by his former wife and good friend, Diana Miles; children, Angineeki Shatobi Jones (Charley) Janessia Horton (Greg), Melodie Monique Hall (George), Glenn Lamar Miles II (Ashley), Marcus Gunn, and Dylan Shelton Miles; grandchildren, Gwendolyn Reese Jones, Zachary Alexander Jones, George Alfred Hall Jr., Londyn McKenley Horton, Brooklyn Paige Horton, Emma Dianne Hall; and siblings, Jacqueline Parker, Felecia Miles Raushan, Derrell Miles, and Antron Miles as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on April 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at Christ’s Church at 715 Brighton Road, in Tifton, Georgia. Come as you are. Bring a story, some vegetables or flower seeds, or a plant cutting to swap with others who knew and loved Glenn. Flowers may be sent to Southview Mortuary 2731 U.S. 41 S, Tifton, GA 31794.
Please keep the family lifted up in prayer at this time.
Professional care and services are entrusted to the Licensed Professionals at Southview Mortuary, Inc.

Glenn and I played trumpet in the last marching band in the history of black high school in Tift County Georgia. Glenn was the most talented young man that I ever knew. But not only was he very talented but he was quick to freely share his talent with anyone. His presence was made such a huge impact on my life. I truly loved 🥰 Glenn Miles.
