Benjamin was born in Nansemond County, Suffolk, Va. He was employed as a High School Social Studies Teacher. He was a member of Union Baptist Missionary Church. He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School and Norfolk State University along with graduate studies at ODU and UVA.
Benjamin is survived by a host of nieces (great), nephews (great), cousins, and friends.
Benjamin was predeceased by his parents, Mrs. Mary M Godfrey and Rev. Thad Godfrey, six sisters, Jennett, Mary Frances, Catherine, Luvenia, Luberta, and Helen; five brothers, Oscar, Rochelle, John Henry, Matthew, and Joseph.
Benjamin will be deeply missed but through his request there will be no service. May God bless you all.
Condolences to the Godfrey family. Mr. Godfrey was an exemplary Educator and Master Teacher in the educational arena. He was an upstanding man representing his community and the communities of his students! Mr. Godfrey left huge footprints on the land scape of humanity in the elevation of the lives that he touched and knowledge imparted. To the family of Mr. Benjamin Godfrey. He was a very nice teacher at John F. Kennedy High School he made sure you obtained the knowledge that you were taught in his classroom. Those are the kind of teachers we need now. He will be missed. You have my condolences and you're in my prayers during your time of bereavement. Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning.
Mr. Godfrey was a gifted teacher - he opened the eyes of his students to what lies beyond the borders of our town. He was appreciated by parents and remembered by his students! He was a TEACHER.
