Dennis Sample Perkins, beloved son of late Violet Sample Bailey, and stepson to the late Leroy Bailey, Sr, was born on December 22, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday June 8, 2025. Dennis also known to his friends as βRedβ, was educated in the public schools of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Victory Gospel Church in Portsmouth, VA, and served as Deacon there for many years. He was joined in holy matrimony to Sharon Yvonnie Knox on July 25, 2015. Dennis was employed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for many years until he became ill. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, and sisters Barbara Bailey Harmon and Joan Bailey Mason. Dennis was the oldest sibling. Sadly, he has departed this side and will be greatly missed by his family and those who fondly knew him. Dennis' favorite things to do with his wife Sharon was going the movies, bowling, playing dominos, and eating out. Dennis leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife Sharon; his son Damien Smith of Eastern Shore of VA; adopted daughter Nyaha Gibbs McGlotten of Killeen TX; granddaughter Heavenly McGlotten; grandsons Eli and Ali McGlotten; a step-daughter Laticial Knox one step-granddaughter Madison Nickerson; three sisters: Yvonne Bailey Nedab (Dalbert Nedab, Sr.) of Wachapreague, VA, Vanessa Bailey of Parksley, VA, and Glynis Bailey Savage of Melfa, VA; two brothers: Leroy Bailey, Jr. (Sandra) of Bear, DE, and Prentice Bailey (Schawaria) of Huntsville, AL; brothers-in-law: Tommy Harmon, Sr. of Parksley, VA, Robert Mason of Eden, MD, and Gary Knox of Baltimore, MD; 4 sisters-in-law: Patricia Knox of Chesapeake, VA, Carolyn German of Chesapeake, VA, Gail Moore of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sandra James of Virginia Beach, VA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday June 30th, 2025 at 1pm at Victory Gospel Chapel 715 Summers Place Portsmouth, Virginia.
Visitation and viewing will be on Sunday June 29th, 2025 from 3pm-5pm.
Steele-Bullock Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
To the family my family ππΎππΎ my heartfelt sympathy to each of you. I haven't seen Dennis for a long time.. but he has always been in my heart π and on my mind.. to his wife sorry we have never met do believe me when I say Dennis to me has always been loved , respected.. and missed.. he and my youngest daughter LaDawn share the same birthday π!!β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ. And thank you so very much for loving and taking care of my beloved cousin.
