Obituary For Wilbert Lee Wright Sr.

On the morning of January 13, 2021, God called home his beloved son, Wilbert Lee “BARETTA” Wright Sr. On October 3, 1935 in Norfolk County, Portsmouth, Virginia, he was born to the late John T. Wright Sr. and Amanda Louise Wright. Although he had no church home, he served as a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior. In 1954, after attending high school for two years in the Portsmouth Public School System, Baretta decided to enlist in the United States Air Force at the age of 19. He was a Military Police (MP) until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1957. He was employed in 1958 by Virginia Chemical until he retired in 1999 due to health complications from workplace hazards. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his three daughters, Avis Eure of South Hill, VA, Carmazine Sharpe (John) of Chesapeake, VA and Bonita Walden (Leslie Sr.) of Portsmouth, VA; two sons, Wilbert Wright, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA and Nicholas Hy-ater (Barbara) of Cheyenne, WY; twelve grandchildren, Kanitra Tyler, Tramaine Wyche, Donté Veal, Erica Veal, Audrey Walker, Lakeesha Walden, DéElsie Joyner, Pauletta Wedlock, Leslie Walden, Jr., Akasha Vaughan, Rajae Bellemy, and Lanisha Hy-ater; one sister, Ernestine Copeland of Suffolk, VA; one sister-in-law, Alicia P. Darden of Portsmouth, VA and one brother-in-law, Geriald Parker of Norfolk, VA; 15 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Audrey M. Wright; one son, Rickie Eure; one grandson, Rickie Walker; two sisters, Thelma Cross and Antionetta Parker; four brothers, John T. Wright, Jr., Leondas Wright, Sr., Bernard Wright, and Judson Wright.

Graveside service will be held on Friday Jan 22 at 1:30 pm in Roosevelt Memorial Park.

Steele-Bullock Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
