Obituary for Ms. Carrie B. Odum

“ I’m sorry I had to leave you. My loved ones, oh so dear. But you see, the Master called me, His voice was very clear! I had made my reservation A heaven bound ticket for one, And I knew that He would call me When He felt my work was done. I know that your hearts are heavy Because I have gone away, But when the Master called me, I knew that I could not stay. Yes, I’m sorry I had to leave you My loved ones, oh so dear, But, you see, the Master called me And, now I’m resting here. Yes, I’ve crossed on over to glory And to you all I say Just stay in the hands of Jesus And we’ll meet again someday.”

Carrie was born in Bessemer, AL on October 15, 1933, to Mr. Dillard and Mrs. Lucy Moore. She had a wonderful childhood as well as upbringing. At an early age Carrie moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, and was amongst the first graduating class of Roosevelt High School in 1951. After her high school graduation Carrie attended the A&T Design School in Chicago, Illinois, where she launched her professional career as a Design Pattern Maker and Tailor. At which time she married her husband, the late Willie Lee Odum. Upon graduation she and her husband launched their careers and became owners of World Cleaners, located in the Pleasant City Community. Prior to her retirement Carrie affectionally greeted and served customers near and far for a period of 33 years. She loved the community of Pleasant City and the community loved her.

She was the biological mother of two children however, she loved and nurtured many community children with a true commitment and sincere interest in their wellbeing. The Pleasant City Community quickly understood that her kindness, honesty, sweet spirit and grateful heart were Godly Trademarks that she possessed.

Her commitment to life could be seen in the love for her family, and her service to her church which she loved. Carrie was a faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Senior Usher Board, Terry Brower Sisterhood, Kitchen Committee, Prayer Breakfast and Board of Christian Education.

Carrie was preceded in death by her husband Willie Lee Odum and son, Lorenzo Odum. To cherish her memory and yet celebrate her life, Carrie leaves a devoted daughter: Linda Palmer; dedicated Son-in-law: Lamar Palmer of Riviera Beach, FL.; Sister-in-law: Ollie McCray of West Lake, FL.; Brother-in-law: George Odum of West Palm Beach, FL.; Daughter-in-law: Linda Odum of Lake Worth, FL.; Grandsons: Logan (Tenille) Palmer and Lance (Danielle) Palmer of Riviera Beach, FL.; Granddaughters: Yolanda Gaines-Coffin of Atlanta, GA.; Lakisha Odum-Wade of Memphis, TN.; and Natalya Miller of Lake Worth, FL.; one aunt Bernice Mercer, New York; five-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, acknowledging Latasha Odum and a multitude of family and friends.

Ms. Carrie B. Odum age 88, of Riviera Beach, Florida quietly passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at her residence. Please keep the family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time.
