Sully C. Carter, Jr. transitioned to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 4, 2022. He was born September 4, 1933, to the late Sully and Isabelle Carter, in Hahira Georgia. Sully is proceeded in death by his son; Artis D Carter, his parents, Sully and Isabelle Carter, sisters and brothers Mary Brown, Alberta Cox, Sallie Carter-Sermons, Katherlene Carter-Miller, Leonza Carter and Wallace Carter.
Sully graduated from Hahira High School and after graduation he worked several jobs in Lowndes County, GA and then moved to Beaumont, TX. In Texas, Sully worked in the shipbuilding industry where he retired and returned to Valdosta, GA and worked various construction jobs. Until his passing, Sully was a devoted member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and devotion leader.
Sully and LaVerne were united in Holy matrimony, July 5, 1997. During their marriage they enjoyed traveling and entertaining their friends and family. Sully suffered a debilitating stroke in 2006. After his stroke, his mobility was limited, but his smile and love of life was not. Sully never met a stranger; his smile and quick-witted sense of humor brightened the lives of all he met. He loved to work on his brother Lawrence’s (Tob) farm and cook for his family and friends. Sully loved to watch baseball and listen to his favorite musician Charles Brown. He was a grill master, specializing in goat, coon of course ribs and chicken and a secret sauce that was finger licking and bone sucking good. This sauce is still requested by many today. Sully was known to his family as Bro or Uncle Bro.
Sully’s memories will forever be cherished by his devoted and loving wife, LaVerne Shiver Carter; son, Calvin Carter of Thomasville, GA; daughter in-law, Kayre Brown-Carter of Valdosta, Ga; bonus children, Andre (Joan) Shiver of Atlanta, GA, William (Alicia) Shiver of Atlanta, GA, Marva (Joseph) Rodrigues of Mobile, AL, Kent (Barbara) Shiver of Fairburn, GA; grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda Artis D., Alexandria Carter of Valdosta, GA; brothers and sisters, Lucille Carter of Miami, FL, Gainus (Shirley) Carter of Hahira GA, Delores Black of Valdosta, GA, Dr. Lawrence (Marva) Carter of Tallahassee, FL, and Wanda Carter of Hahira, GA.; host of bonus grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, a devoted care-giver, Latonia Powell, other relatives and friends.
