Gladys McConnehead Zanders was born on December 22, 1940 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Mr. Arthur McConnehead, Sr. and the late Mrs. Cora Curtis McConnehead.
Gladys accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of St. Phillips I.A.M.E. Church.
During her lifetime, Gladys worked faithfully for Mr. Bob Clyatt, Mr. Barry and Mrs. Pam Chapman and Mr. Jim and Mrs. Marilyn Bearden for many years.
On Thursday, June 13, 2024, Gladys entered eternal rest and peace in the comfort of her home. God looked from Heaven with outstretched arms and said to Gladys that you fought a good fight, you kept the faith, and you stood in the gap. Well done good and faithful servant, welcome home.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur McConnehead, Sr. and Cora Curtis McConnehead; one daughter, Shirley Williams; two sons, Alvin Simpson and Calvin Simpson; four brothers, Wallace McConnehead, Arthur McConnehead, Jr., Leroy McConnehead and Ralph McConnehead; two grandchildren, Laticia Mathis and Antwan Mathis, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her four children, Doris Morrison, Larry Simpson (Lorraine), Theresa Byrdsong, and Linda Fuller; one sister, Mable Lane; nine grandchildren, James Mathis, Sheranda Bell (Donte), Sherika Dailey, Danielle Simpson, Vontrica Simpson, Rafeale Simpson, Terrione Simpson, LaShonika Simpson and Yasmine White; thirty great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Grace Victory Church, 303 N. Barack Obama Blvd., Valdosta, GA 31601. Rev. Robert Daniels, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pallbearers Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held Friday, June 21, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be live streamed on the funeral home Facebook and YouTube Page (Stevens Funeral Home-Valdosta, GA).
