Johnnie Lee “Ricky” Durham, Sr. was born in Stuart, FL on March 5, 1956 to the late Blanche Durham Davis. He was the fifth child of five.
At a young age, Johnnie joined Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart, FL. In 1992, he moved to Valdosta, Georgia where he joined Universal Deliverance Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Naomi McCowan.
He worked many years as a truck driver and construction worker until he was disabled. He was joined in holy matrimony to Mattie Rogers on March 6, 1976 and to that union three children were born.
He was preceded in death by one sister: Linda Janette Durham; one niece: Beverly Denise Crist; one nephew: Octavio L. Jones; four brothers-in-law: Charles W. Mosley, Sr., Emanuel Rogers, Jr., Nathaniel Rogers, Sr. and Willie Lee Rogers; one son-in-law: Steven Shaw; three sisters-in-law: Renora Mosley, Margaret Raysor and Carolyn Rogers.
Johnnie transitioned to his earthly home on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves to mourn and celebrate his homegoing, a loving and devoted wife of 48 years: Mattie R. Durham; one son: Johnny (Melody) Durham, Jr.; four daughters: Rikecha (Antonio) Armstrong, Latresa Shaw (Willie), Tiquanda Robinson (Tai’Rhan) of Jacksoville, FL and Penny Josey of Indian Trail, NC; one goddaughter: Brittney Mitz of Fort Pierce, FL; three sisters: Lessoe P. Durham, Carolyn Tippins of Stuart, FL and Mattie Durham of Tallahassee, FL; mother-in-law: Margaret Rogers; three brothers-in-law: Wallace Rogers, James (Ivory) Rogers and Moses Rogers, Sr. of Savannah, GA; eight grandchildren: Darius Durham, Nykea Durham, Zybieon Robinson, Tai’Rhan Alford, Jr., Ed Baker, Porcha Baker, Marquavious Wilson and Nia Studstill; four god grandchildren: Kendrick Owens, Jr., Na’Zyria Mitz, Christian Mitz and Donica Mitz; Also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
The celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Universal Deliverance Church. Apostle Naomi McCowan, pastor. Burial will follow in the Pallbearers Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held Friday, December 20, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
