Joseph Carl Williams, Sr. was born on February 3, 1941 to Lucinda Brown and the late Archie L. Williams.
He was educated in the Valdosta City Schools System. Joseph was a God-fearing man who loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his love for God with whomever he met. He always had an encouraging word. He joined Union Cathedral Church in 1992 where he served as a faithful member until his health began to fail. In 1990, Joseph was united in Holy Matrimony to Celesta Mae Gilbert.
He was employed by the Lowndes County Schools for thirty-two years until in retired in June of 2019.
Joseph went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Pruitt Health Crestwood.
He is preceded in death by his father, Archie L. Williams; one daughter, Lucinda Williams; two brothers, Archie Lee Williams, Sr. and William Brown; one grandson, Joshua Tyson.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his loving and devoted wife of thirty-three years, Mrs. Celesta Mae Williams of Valdosta, GA; his loving mother, Lucinda Brown of Valdosta, GA; five children, JoAnn Roberts (John) of Valdosta, GA, Viola Williams (Calvin) of Quitman, GA, Joseph Williams, Jr. of Valdosta, GA, Denise Tyson of Valdosta, GA and Jerome Tyson (Bernadeth) of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren, Antrone Williams of Valdosta, GA, Demetrice Williams of Quitman, GA, Kenisha McKinney of Quitman, GA, Jenay Small, Natori Tyson, Shantrell Tyson all of Valdosta, GA and Elijah Tyson of Jacksonville, FL; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters, Daisy M. Richards (Herman) of San Antonio, TX and Eugenia Blankensee of Valdosta, GA; three brothers, Curtis Williams, Eugene Brown (Arlene) and Roland Brown (Debra) all of Valdosta, GA; three sister-in-laws, Carrie Parson, Linda Demps both of Quitman, GA and Lillie Pearl Brown of Jacksonville, FL; one brother-in-law, William Parson (Marie) of Jacksonville, FL; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Union Cathedral Church, 1050 East Hill Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31601. Bishop Wade S. McCrae, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pallbearers Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held Friday, December 22, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
