Lillian Floyd, one of the first top black female to earn a management career with Avon products, dies at 102.
On Friday, January 7, 2022, Lillian Floyd peacefully entered eternal rest at 5:19 A.M. in Louisburg, NC. She was born on July 31, 1919, in Savannah, GA to the parents of Robert and Isabel Thomas. After many years of living in New York City, and working at Avon Products, she quickly climbed to management status where she reaped many professional accolades and benefits.
While working in New York, Lillian met the love of her life, her husband, Louis Floyd. After Lillian retired from Avon, she and Louis moved to Valdosta GA, and quickly made it their home. They had a joyful and loving marriage, travelling, cruising, enjoying various sport games, and spending time with families and friends in Florida and Georgia. After Louis death in 1995, Lillian remained in Valdosta contributing and providing meaningful community services and quality time caring for seniors and small children.
Lillian was an active member of the faith community at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. For many years, on any given Sunday, you could hear Lillian on the Piano, teaching Sunday school, or smell the aroma from her cooking in the kitchen at the church. She was an active and caring lady and loved by many. She loved bowling, people, and cared about world peace. She read a lot and provided many hours as a caretaker for young children and seniors in nursing homes. Her niece in Washington DC, Dr. M Valerie Mills, said she visited her grandmother, Ola Mae Floyd, who was also Lillian's mother-in-law, every day until her death.
Family meant everything to Lillian, therefore, when years started adding up, she felt the need to move to a senior living residence where she would still have some flexibility and independence. With thoughtful planning, in 2015, she left Valdosta, GA, and moved to Holly Springs, NC, to be closer to family members. In Holly Springs, Lillian immediately submerged herself into a comfortable and peaceful life with new friends in her new dwelling. In 2021, after Lillian turned the ripe age of 101, Lillian's nephew, Johnny Little and his wife Elizabeth of Louisburg, NC, lovingly moved Lillian to their home for closer care. Lillian embraced the move and settled in a caring atmosphere until she took her last breath on January 7, 2022.
Lillian leaves beautiful and heartfelt memories of her life with many family members and friends: her stepson, Louis Floyd, Jr., and his wife, Winifred; granddaughter, Lynya Floyd; several nephews, and numerous family members in Asbury Park, New Jersey in addition to the many church members and long-standing friends in Valdosta and Holly Springs.
To know Lillian Floyd is to love her, truly admire her and to thank her and God for the life she lived, the differences she made in the world, and the love and care she gave to many. Rest in Heavenly Peace Lillian Floyd.
