Obituary For Louell Black

Mrs. Louell Black was born on January 31, 1937, in Adel, Georgia, to the late Mr. Roscoe Fields and Mrs. Mittie Fields.

At an early age, Louell accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and became a member of Good Hope Christian Church. Her faith remained an important part of her life, providing her with strength and guidance throughout the years.

Louell was educated in the Cook County School System. Blessed with a caring and compassionate spirit, she devoted much of her life to serving others. She was employed as a bus driver with the Lowndes County School System, where she safely transported and cared for many children throughout the years. She also served as a caregiver and nurse to others, extending kindness, comfort, and a helping hand to those entrusted to her care.

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Pruitt Health Valdosta, God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw Louell’s precious face. He put His loving arms around her and lifted her from labor to eternal rest.

Louell was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Mittie Fields; her beloved husband, Jake Black; two sisters; one niece; and her longtime partner, Cornelius Marshall.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories and celebrate a life well lived: two loving daughters, Teresa Clayton (Tony) of Live Oak, Florida, and Felicia Benefield (Corey) of Jacksonville, Florida; two stepsons, Cornelius Marshall, Jr. and Michael Marshall both of Valdosta, Georgia; five grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Delores Black, Mae Lillie McEady and Arnita Presley all of Valdosta, Georgia; three nieces, Beverlyn Thomas, Gail Snell (Charlie), and Jacqueline Sandy (Dennis); one nephew, Robert Smith; four great-nieces, Kimberly Thomas, Dedra Thomas, Tanisha Phillips, and Erica Snell; three great-nephews, John Thomas, II, Charles Snell, and Anthony Snell; and a special great-niece and devoted caretaker, Valerie Smith, who lovingly cared for her aunt with unwavering love, compassion, and support.

Louell’s life was one of service, compassion, faith, and love. Her gentle spirit and the many lives she touched will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Though she has transitioned from this earthly life, the love she shared and the memories she created will continue to be treasured for generations to come.

The celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Morning Star Baptist Church, 1051 Howell Road, Valdosta, GA 31601. Reverend Naamen Hooker, pastor, Pastor J.P. Robinson, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, 5009 Highway 122 East, Hahira, GA 31632.

Public viewing will be held Friday, August 28, 2026 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
