Obituary For Robert Lewis "Bob" Mickens

A Time to Be Born:

Robert Lewis Mickens was born on March 8, 1938, in Valdosta, Georgia, to W.D. Mickens and Margareete L. Lissimore Hall. From the very beginning his life was a testament of love, faith and resilience.

A Time to Love and Grow:

A life marked by kindness, generosity, and unwavering love came to a peaceful close with the passing of a man whose presence touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Baptized at St. Paul AME Church, his faith was a steady guide throughout his life. He served his church with devotion—singing in the choir, reading the announcements, and offering his voice and spirit to every service he attended.

He had a gift for bringing joy into any room. Whether singing karaoke with friends or sharing stories over breakfast at Kristal’s, he created community wherever he went. His circle of friends was wide, and each one knew him as someone who listened deeply, laughed easily, and cared sincerely.

A lover of travel, he embraced the world with curiosity and enthusiasm, collecting memories and friendships along the way. Yet his greatest acts of love were found at home. He cared for his mother and his aunts with profound dedication, tending to them faithfully until their passing—a testament to his loyalty and the depth of his heart.

After a long and committed career, he retired from General Motors, where he was respected for his hard work and steady character.

A Time to Rest:

On the evening of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Robert peacefully transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and joy—one that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his spirit will remain a guiding light to those he loved.

A Time to Remember:

Robert is preceded in death by his father, W.D. Mickens; his mother, Margarette L. Lissimore Hall; his sister, Yvonne Brown (Mickens); aunts, Carrie Mae Lissimore and Lavonia Lissimore.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories to his brother-in-law, Obbie Brown, Jr. of California; nieces, Renee Brown of California, Regina Moore of Texas, Monica Brown of California, and Monique Brown of California; great nephews and niece, Brent Pittman of California, Everette Harden of Georgia, Ryan Harden (Sharee) of North Carolina and Elizabeth Abdill of Maryland; and a host of cousins and dear friends.

Robert’s life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love everlasting. Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the joy he brought to those around him. Robert will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to shine through the lives he touched.
