Obituary For April D. Mayes James

April was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday February 7, 1972 to Roy Mayes Sr. and Mattie Lee Mayes. April made her grand entry into heaven on August 19, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Shirley Ann Martin and Dorothy Mayes.

April was a faithful member of Courtland Avenue Church of Christ in Quitman, Georgia. April was a very active grandparent. She's the proud grandmother to; Ahmad L. Mitchell, Jr., Markell D. Mitchell, Ah'mir L. Mitchell, Myles D. Mitchell and La'Yani James. They were her pride and joy.

April was raised in Riviera Beach, Florida where she attended Palm Beach Garden High School and Howell Watkins Jr. High School. She received her G.E.D and her cosmetology license from South Georgia Technical College in Americus, Georgia.

April married Christopher James on March 15, 2001. Together, they were blessed with five children, Raquel (Ahmad Sr.) Mayes-Mitchell, William A. Lusane, Andrea James, Erik James, and Derik James.

April has three brothers Roy Mayes, Jr. (Shari), John Lee Mayes (Debra), and Henry Lee Mayes (Carolena). April also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives to cherish her memories.

Visitation will be Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 3PM-7PM.

Home going service will be Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11AM at the Evelyn McGhee Repast Center with Bro. Oglesby Jackson, Jr., officiating. Visit this website or our Stevens- McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the service.
